Targa florio cancelled?

I heard from good source it might not happen. Mac group has money problems. Org has been unreachable for weeks. I had two cars entered. Crap.

 

A few minutes ago, on the way to the ferry for Palermo.

the latest i heard is Ferrari took over running the Tribute event so that is still a go. No word on the classic car event though.

 

Hi, do you have any more info on this? I have a car entered in the classic too, and this is naturally a little worrying.

It seems that the Targa Florio rally was going to be cancelled as the local government had pulled funding - all over the Italian papers in August. But that event is now going ahead (27-29). Have the two events been conflated?

 

latest I hear is the classic rally may still go on with the Automobile club taken over the event from MAC. Will keep everyone posted.

Spoke to some former MAC employees who left MAC some months ago, but they had no more info.
If the ACP (Automobile Club Palermo) takes over they should start the communication.

Porsche (including GvL) is out, I was told by GvL, and if they wait any longer many entrants including me wont take the risk travelling all the way to Palermo to find out it is a mess.....

I also had a classic car entered (scheduled to be transported tomorrow) and received no communication from them.

No, I subscribed for the "real" thing, no tributes for me, but strange that the Tribute will continue, without the real thing going on....this is really not good news for the premier rally events. Quite some people not only paid a large sum to the organisation but getting all the cars and people (and in some cases support crew) from all over the world to Sicily is not nothing. I think the organisers will have a hard time next week.....

The Classic Event is the one Canceled? What about the MAC event that also contained the "Ferrari Tribute" within it? Is the MAC event still on?

Ferrari took over the running of the Tribute event to not disappoint their clients.

MAC is bankrupt, they ran off with over 1mn euro in deposits,i paid for two entries myself at 9,700euro for both.

the most awful part is that MAC disappear and doesnt have decency to post on their website that the event is cancel. I bet there are many who will show up without knowing.

 

Wow very sorry! So the "Classic" portion of the MAC event has been canceled but Ferrari will still run the Ferrari Tribute Part of the Event that was to run along side the Classic Event?

 

I'm due to take my car this week for the classic, and I'm going anyway. If the Ferrari Tribute is on, hopefully they'll let me tag along! I guess it's about making the best of it, and then seeing what recourse there is after the event when the picture is a little clearer.

I agree that this casts doubt over all such events, and I for one will think long and hard before committing to one again.

Hopefully there will be some of like mind who will also press on and make the most of it - if so, see you in Sicily next week!

What I understood is that Ferrari will take over the Tribute from MAC but have to pay (again) for the fascilities. I doubt they will do this for the TF entrants....I was/am planning to go with a Ferrari but as an entrant of the TF, I doubt they will pay for me.....

S H I T happens...but I suggest people inform themselves as much as possible before endng up on an island witout organised fascilities wth an expensive car and a trailer somewhere at the port....

I can't believe though how you can mess up a high margin event like this as the actual costs are a fraction of the income.

It could be that it's not the event itself that got MAC into difficulty but their other business activities - which would make it more galling of course.

Am going to see what the automobile club of Palermo may have to say on this tomorrow in terms of residual facilities - not holding my breath, though. Still, I reckon there'll be fun to be had
