After looking around for a while I finally bought a 250 Cabriolet Series 2. I'd be interested if anyone knows any more about the history?

It was with the last owner since 1988, who was a Ferrari dealer in France.

I even have a video of him in the car:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s1SkmOqO24]250 GT Cabriolet série II - Ferrari days ( Linselles - France) - YouTube[/ame]

    But nothing pre '88

The only thing on barchetta is:

"77 - Brain Burnett, Los Gatos, CA (Ferrari dealer)
claims it is Cal Spyder "

Which is strange, as you can see it's not, but I don't know if this helps anyone place the car?

I'm also going to change the colour back to original which was Grigio Conchiglia. The interior was white however, which I don't fancy, and I would be interested in any views and particularly any photos anyone may have of a good interior leather colour, available in period, to go with the shell grey.

Thanks for any information / thoughts, I'll try and post more pic as the restoration progresses. Pic here is at Cremonini in Italy, front looks high as the engine is out for rebuild

What color is that exactly? The original color is MUCH nicer than the red colour now.
Congratulations on your fine 250 convertible. E

Thanks, agreed, I'm assuming it was probably sprayed red in the 80's. I think the original colour suits the car much better. It was Grigio Conchiglia new, which is shell grey, a kind of slight greeny silvery grey. You can see it better in this pic from Pebble Beach of 2039 GT. It seems to have been a fairly popular colour on this cars with most interiors being tan, natural, black and red. Mine seems to be the only one which was built with a white leather interior...

There were several different shades of Grigio Conchiglia!! At least eight:
    18933 M Italver
    MM 16249 Max Meyer.
    15702 M.
    16439.
    19175 Italver.
    21694 Italver.
    23992 Italver.

Thanks for the heads up Marcel, do you know which of these would have been in used in 1960 and most likely to have been used on the 250 PF Series II?

Absolutely not true. Only 16249 and 18933 appear in PF Coupe/S.2 production ledgers. Besides, the factory list of colors where these codes seem to have been retrieved from includes several typos. 16439, for one, is the Max Meyer color code for blue sera, not grigio conchiglia. Best wishes, Kare

Many thanks Marcel, and Kare, you really know your stuff, much appreciated, I will make sure this info is conveyed to Cremonini. They sent me this pic of the swatch.

I don't suppose you have any more info on the car from new, or where I should look? There can't have been too many with a white interior. Although I'm erring towards black.

I've recieved a bit more information from Toni Auto in Italy who are looking at the mechanical side of the restoration and have been intouch with Ferrari Classiche

"And have this news from Ferrari Classiche ,
the car is number 2 or 3 producted and special allestiment from PininFarina directly and for really details about colour Classiche tell directly Pininfarina, and in this days tell to me the First colour details.
I think is good news this???"

I don't know if anyone has come across this before? Maybe it was a factory spec'd colour scheme as a trial, rather than a customer?

"My first research is this details:
    -Grigio Conchiglia (Grey Shell)
-interior leather white inside and blue leather ( interni in pelle bianca (centrale) e pelle blu)
    - first owner in France"

Does this mean white with blue piping? Any information appreciated.

With a unique specification like this you should strongly consider reverting to the original color scheme inside and out.

Correct color code for blue was VM 3087. That is the standard blue leather used by Ferrari and if you look up the thread showing photos of Ed Long's 1747GT, you'll get a good idea of the color. Connolly's code for white leather used was VM 3323

    Best wishes, Kare

There was one prototype (1213GT). Two further pre-production cars (1559GT & 1561 GT) were started in September 1959 and when the actual production began, the first two cars were 1695GT and 1697GT both started on 1/12/59. Best wishes, Kare

And where is 1537 GT in this sequence?
The factory list states 1537 GT was PF Job #29701, building began 25 August 1959 and the original owner was Samuel Eric Norman in Nice, France.
Original exterior color: Rosso Bordeaux MM 10027.
Original interior color: Vinyl & Leather Naturale VM 3218.
In about the year 2000 chassis 1537 GT was stolen in France.

Thanks, so I guess since it's an earlier number 1537 GT was also a pre production car?

I think 1561 GT is the one where Porfirio Rubirosa sadly died in a fatal crash, discussed in another thread. I guess this car is no longer around?

    Wasn't 1297GT also a prototype SII Cab?
