Good morning guys, I just got my new to me 430 spider and just noticed its missing the wind deflector between the roll bars. My question to you experts is should I request one from the dealer or just leave it alone? I've been reading that they are known to rattle and most people take them off. What do you think? Is it worth the effort? Thanks pictures to follow.

    0. Congratulations on the F430 Spider! Welcome to the community...

    1. I think most people are idiots.

    2. The deflector measurably reduces interior turbulence, also reducing noise. It makes the climate control more effective, especially when coupled with the windows being up (and of course the top down).

    3. Many say it inhibits rearward vision. I find this amazing. On the F430 it is made of a transparent Lexan type material and thus photons travel through it with minimal attenuation or scattering. I recommend a trip to the optometrist if it inhibits your vision.

    4. Does it make noise? Sure, if installed incorrectly. See point 1. Mine is a silent as an empty church. Mine did squeak a little when I purchased the vehicle, but it was not fastened down correctly.

    5. Same topic, insert 2 seat convertible vehicle here. It is the same on the Boxster forum, people saying the rear glass is not needed, does no good, etc. But I have driven both vehicles without the rear glass and it makes quite a difference.

+1 on all points! (Well, maybe not #1. But I agree if what he's referring to is people removing and keeping them for some reason, after selling their car.)

I suggest you insist on the dealer supplying the part for the reasons above. You paid for a complete car and should get a complete car. If you have to buy a 430 wind deflector yourself, be prepared to pay a lot of money for a piece of clear plastic. IMHO, still worth it compared to nothing at all. On 360s, the deflector is a mesh screen, which does inhibit rearward vision. The 430's clear one is much better.

IIRC the one with black finish is around $600 and the titanium finish is $900.

Where do you tighten the posts that support the plexiglass piece? Mine seems to be just a little
    Loose.

    Thanks.

I've got the plexiglass deflector on my 16M.

It's fine in all conditions, except one. When the sun is at just the right angle (above and behind the car), the sunlight is refracted by the glass deflector making looking into the rear-view mirror is quite painful.

In a 16M, objects in the rear view mirror are figments of history and viewing them is not necessary.

Well thanks for all your opinions. You have successfully changed my mind. I emailed the salesman yesterday and I am waiting a reply. If I don't get an email today I'll give him a call after all I did pay for a complete car right? I also understand there's a case to store it in right? Thanks for the info, now I'm out for a little drive and some photos. Thanks again

No case to store the deflector in. It's attached and stays there.

You may be referring to the car cover that the car should have come with?

Wow I missed a lot.😥I knew about the cover but missed the wind deflector. Got the tools air compressor, battery tender and the books but no cover or wind deflector. Hopefully I can get that though. Got caught in the moment I guess

Even a 16M can't out run sunlight. ;) Now where is that warp drive button.
In all seriousness, the deflector does a great job except for very occasional sunlight reflections in the rear view mirror, you need it.
Congrats on the car, looks lovely.

Mine came with a case as well. It is supposed to. You should get both. I will take a pic of mine and post here. I think it's glass not plexi but I could be wrong. I had the case (made of black leather) still wrapped in it's plastic bag from the factory. I couldn't figure our what it was for, then it dawned on me... the rear wind deflector! I agree that with the top up it impedes rear vision so I take it off and put it in it's little bag behind the passenger seat. When top is down I put it in and it does make a difference with wind noise. Mine rattled when I picked it up but realized it wasn't pushed down all the way. Now it snug. Insist that they get you one.

Wow, now-that's meticulous! Lol I see what you mean, yeah it doesn't seem that too many people have that bag. I just spoke with the salesman at the dealer and first thing he said was that it cost around $500. I said but yeah it's missing and it is so posed to have it. We left off with he will see what he can do. I mean if I noticed it before I would insisted on it. I'm afraid it may be too late now. Well I would like to give him the benefit. I guess time will tell. It irritates me that I missed it. I mean all that research right?
