I've tried to set up two polls, one for those who earned their own money to buy the car, and the others who had family money. Unfortunately I could only do one. I'll set up another thread for those who had family money.

Bought my 246 Dino Gt with money saved and a surprise bonus.

    $8000. :)

Spent another 10 grand over the next two years getting it pretty and running again -- all with my own $$$$$ at the tender age of 24.

In case you're wondering, I put myself through college with my own money and living at home. Debt after graduating: zero. :)

Bought my first Ferrari when I realized that the price difference between the trade in value for my used 911 and owning a new 328 GTSI was only 25K. I've always paid my own way and writing that check was no different.

I bought my 308 at age 22, I had worked for hourly wages at my family farm since graduating high-school and worked between 300 and 350 hours every month. I had no life so I wasn't spending any money either.

I was 12 when I bought my first car mag with a Ferrari in it. Love at first sight.

Only took me 40+ years to fulfill that dream. And it was worth waiting for. :)

First on in October 2010 when I was 41. I bought it when I sold an Alfa SZ Zagato and a Lancia Delta integrale.
I've always been interested in Italian cars but always bought surrogates instead of a Ferrari.

I was 26. Financed it, because I didn't trust the seller and wanted a bank involved in the transaction.

Paid the loan off a month or two later.

And oh yeah, it was my money.

    Like others, paid cash.

Isn't there a "monster thread" of this very topic that's been running for years?

I was 23 I think. Working in a shop that serviced Ferrari. Bought it from the owner who didn't want to spend the money to fix it. So I low balled him and he accepted much to my surpize. 23k I paid for it. It went on to become one of the bed cars I have ever ownd. At the time being 23 and owning a Ferrari, corvette, and a merecdes all at the same time was a really big deal!!

The 3 or 4 other ferraris I have owned were bought the same way.

54 when I got mine. Was a graduation present to me after some very hard work and earning my degree's. Always wanted a Ferrari and I thought I truly had earned the right to own one. Not bad for a "dumb f..in mechanic".

I was in my 20's, and I always paid my own way.

The only thing my family has ever given me is a headache.

    17, I purchased a 1959 250 PF coupe

Back then you could not give away Ferrari's

    It was $2500

When new in 1959, I believe the car retailed for $12,900

    4 speed, no overdrive
    AM/FM mono radio (Tube)
16 Inch wheels OEM tires were Dunlop RS5 tires Bias ply
I think it had newer Dunlop RS6 tires on it
Drum brakes, the largest I have ever seen.
3 36 MM Dual throat Webers

Bought a used 360 when i was 38, saved for years and upgraded from various Porsche 911's. I think I waited too long. Driving a Ferrari at 8,000+ rpm is my second favorite thing to do in this world!

We'll, I've already married the same woman twice-no divorces-just had to make sure it sticks

Every wife controls the budget. If my wife said this (previous quote) I'd marry her a 3rd time
