I think the jab originated because some MP4 owners/drivers that can't make full use of the MP4's acceleration and top speed (in the US, for example) find the remaining experience lacking emotion, especially when compared to a Ferrari. If the jab wasn't exaggerated, it wouldn't have the necessary impact.

I think it comes from the imaginative name the "device" is called. It sounds like a model of fax machine. All I know I find it rather funny, almost as funny how some people get so wound up about their cars. We all know the 458 is best and the wolf is on the wind up.

The Abarth is a perfect example of a relatively slow performance car that is otherwise enjoyable because it has a lot of character...quirky good looks, racy sound, spunky handling, upright driving position, etc.

The plus side of the McLaren depreciation is that you can easily go put 20-30K miles on the car with little impact from this point. If you do that with a 2012 458, you'll lose just as much.

Depreciation is a curve. The longer you keep it, the cheaper it is per mile. If you keep a 458 and 12C for the next 5 years, you'll probably see a similar price when you go to sell.

Does everyone here think that McLaren will continue to produce so many cars...say in the next 5 years?
Maybe they will go back to just a special model every decade or so?

    And it looks like a cross between a P1 and a 12C.

Why would they not? They reinvested another $300 MIL USD last week and there loss for 2012 was $11Million and they will be profitable for 2013.

I have tried it. Unfortunately, the last thing you bring up is the reason you buy a super car. If it were not for that, just get a GT-r or one of these Corvettes with superchargers.

The 12C is a more serious approach to sports car design than the 458. That's good. Unfortunately, it has the personality of it's creator who has the personality of a sponge.

It's all science and engineering. Well, I want a bit more when I'm playing Walter Mitty.

That, make perfect sense of where the term "fax machine" originated.

    Thank you.

    improved over previous car.

same old silly little steering wheel (Hami likes it but not on the McL team any more) and should be changed already!

can drift it thru the turns on the track...previous version was about umpossible. Still not as easy to drift as 458.

    Hip, hip hooray!

And... We are being overrun by McLaren trolls and werewolves masquerading as Ferrari aficionados.

He also said the car was still nervous at the limit and not confidence inspiring in part due to its unpredictable nature at the limit. He did also note that the car was improved from before.

Logically, he declared/ implied that the 458 remained the benchmark.

I highly doubt that any of the trolls or werewolves are anywhere near as capable as those drivers leading me to conclude that we have made the right decision on more than just looks, sound, and history.

    What a joke this is.......

Zero- the amount of times anyone on this board "drifts" their car when driving on the street

Zero- the amount of McLaren owners that think the car is not fast as hell and even faster than the 458

Zero- the amount of McLaren owners with the latest software that thinks the car doesn't sound great, burbles and provides tons of emotion

Zero- (Well Almost) the amount of people who have commented on this thread that actually OWN both cars together and at the same time!

I believe quite a few folks here have owned both cars or at the same time.

    And the point is?

If you eat a good meal, someone right next to you might eat the same thing and hate it. Are they wrong in hating it?

    I don't think so.

They just have a different taste than you do. And, I wouldn't call their opinion of the meal "a joke".

    AGREED.

Its the intangibles. Otherwise why even go for a McLaren when a GTR does more and has more seats too. Or if you keep going backwards you end up with a Toyota which is reliable and provides point a-b transportation......
