Different tastes and opinions are fine. But atleast own both cars (not at different times) so you can drive one all day Saturday and then the other one all day Sunday so you can have a factual point of view.
Besides the pleasure... The purpose of drifting is to see how the car acts as it's approaching and exceeding the cars limit of adhesion. The control and communication is the issue. The Ferrari nails it and the 12-C does not. There is more to driving than raw performance numbers. Wouldn't one expect members of a forum such as this to understand the importance of this issue? Werewolves and posers for sure!
Love Italian food and wine. British food (haggis for example) and wine (haha) are pretty lame. so I guess it's OK to love Italian cars as well.
the 458 drifts like mad i used to pull 100 yards drifts in mine and be able to shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. very fun, if childish most engineers try to make the car 'hook up' and not do this very well.
Considering you are the OP, and posted about the 12C on the 458 thread instead of the British section, who is the real Troll here?
I do own both among other cars and I like both cars plus a few others. I donnot understand the Mclaren beating. Well no matter I like the car. I asume these people will never buy a mclaren and as a owner that is okay with me It may even help the cars value. Same to the 458 beaters. I think the Mclaren lines are timeless and will look modern and fresh 40 years from now. took my Mclaren out of storage this morning and fell in love again. I returned my 458 at the same time after enjoying a love affair with that car again. best Lee
Oh, I understand it. Buying a car is a very personal choice. It's natural to defend your selection. The same arguments go on between Ford Fusion hybrid owners and Prius owners.
Here is why...... You own both cars and 99% of the people "commenting" do not! To me it's like everyone is trying to give a restaurant review for a restaurant they never ate at, which is why they are simply regurgitating things that they have "heard" rather than experienced.
Honestly, this is just a silly post. So, you think you have to actually own a car to comment if you like it or not? I've driven one. I thought it was good but not great. I never warmed up to it's looks or sound. I don't really car much about the tech stuff I can't see or feel. Shoot me. BTW: I still think the McLaren F1 is the best car ever made in the modern era. So, don't be calling me a fan boy.
It's only a joke if they never ate the meal! This is exactly my point. Eat the meal. If you don't like it, no problem but don't say the food is crap. i.e. I purchased a Porshe GT3RS and drove it for a month. I tried my hardest to love it but I just couldn't. The ride was too harsh and I couldn't get used to shifting again in traffic like the old days. However the car is an incredible piece of machinery. No question about it. It wasn't for me, but I would never bash it or bother comparing it to anything else because it's a unique car that does certain things very very well.
That is because you have not driven mine, LOL. But seriously, Lee is correct, both cars are such terrific vehicles and have their pros and cons we should be so lucky they both exist. If you like the 458, it does mean you don't have to like the 12C and vice versa. I plan on getting a 458 some time soon, but that does not mean I want to sell my 12C. Just my 2 cents.
I gave up my 458 for the same reasons the 12C doesn't do it for me. So, it's not an F vs Mac issue in my book To me, it's about what is and isn't worth $250K for a street car. Right now for me, neither are. That's unfortunate.
I hear you Bob, to be honest, I rarely drive my 12C or my old 430 (which frankly is more lively than the 12C or the 458). My 991 does 90% of the other two and is the best DD I have ever owned. If anything I am more of a Porsche Fan than either Ferrari or McLaren just because of the incredible usability and the integration of the Bluetooth, Nav, Stereo, and A/C for everyday use.
I hope you are doing well. Your phrase " defend your selection" Is really saying I bought what I like. I think we all do that. I know alot of this forum is just kids that are still learning the multiplication tables but even making allowances for the poor Meclaren is taking an undeserved bashing. So how do you like your Prius? Best Lee
Not to get off track but... once I rented a Prius and I thought it was perhaps the worst modern car (if not actually dangerous) I have ever driven. The brakes are simply horrible and inconsistent. I'm assuming its because of the regenerative braking system. I don't need to own one to know I would not like it.
--- I agree...I watch those fool owners in Prius driving far too fast, cutting off, weaving in and out...and we both know the handling and braking is piss poor in that car. My DD is an M3, and I keep away from those tools.
I own many cars and I try to pick each car that fills a driving niche that I do not have in the other cars. My cars go the gambit from a 1954 vette to a R8 V10 among others. It is my hobby. I love almost all cars. I was looking and some baby birds a few days ago plus a GTO Judge. Life is good. I think your 2 cents is more a dollar Best Lee
I found this in the Corvette forum, posted by Guibo. Gordon Murray is the former engineer for McLaren and Brabham, and designer of the 230-mph F1 supercar. Image Unavailable, Please Login
