That was uncalled for my friend.

The Mayor was simply stating his opinion and feelings about Ferrari. If you cannot understand that, no problem; but if you cannot find a civilized way of conversing, may I advise you to please try to expand your vocabulary in order to properly converse with the other people (gentlemen) on the forum. :)

I'm not being critical, just trying being helpful IMHO. :)

The alfa 4c looks great. Ran through the configurator today for fun. Great looking car.

Yes, but no one knows when it's coming and who will sell them. Typical "Alfa". :)

Also, the US specs/changes are getting rather disappointing.

Lots of interesting posts, enjoying the points of view. I agree with ski bum that where/when you drive makes all the difference, at least for me. Rarely do I drive my Ferrari around town, mostly carving up local rural roads in a dawn patrol run.

But Mayor had many other points not related to the actual driving experience such as dealer attitude, lack of modern ordering and follow through, and build quality that completed the soured experience.

I just spec'd a Q5 diesel and I couldn't believe how great the process and transparency has been, I can track where on the ocean my car is right now! And what great and comfortable interiors they are producing!

The expectation SHOULD be that if I spend $300k on a car, that it shouldn't be I feel like the dealer is doing me a favor in taking my money.

I SHOULD reasonably expect that even though others I encounter might not agree with the extravagance that owning a Ferrari often implies to many, that they at least respect my property and safety. Or are at the very least indifferent and not aggressive whether it be baiting to race or verbal disrespect.

There are still those who just want a ride/to sit in or learn about nice cars who are always a pleasure to spend time time with. Or the experience of finding a great independent mechanic who is grateful for your business and eases the occassional expense and aggravation that comes with Ferrari ownership. Maybe most importantly, there is the camaraderie that only comes from associations with others that have the same passion.

For the Mayor, it seems the negatives have outweighed the positives of Ferrari ownership. It is not hard to see both sides and respect his conclusions.

I would say the dealer is the biggest single factor regarding customer satisfaction and loyalty. It's up to the dealers to exceed their customers expectations and one by one, build the brand. I think we are lucky with some of the exotic dealers we have up here in Vancouver. I just don't see or here of the same type of problems others mention. People that buy these cars are like any other customer, they want to be treated right and get value for their money.

I'm going to continue the boat ownership experience analogy. I've custom ordered a hand made boat before. I am pretty certain there are fewer made per year than Ferraris. And they emailed me regularly with photos of the build, the first water launch, and I was able to confirm they built it to my spec. Why a marque like Ferrari wouldn't do the same is beyond me. Does Bentley or Rolls treat its customers like this?

No, I have had two great dealers. I think it's at a higher level than that.

The transparency issue may be partly at the dealer level but they are not to blame in poor engineering of basic systems, a lack of communication about your order when placed, poor quality control, interiors that wear out quickly, overpriced options and replacement parts, and the other issues of owning and driving an exotic in the "modern world".

They have some influence but if you read my post, it's way above that.

I started this post not thinking it would ever reach more than 3 pages. Some agree with me, others disagree.

My hope is that someone in Maranello actually reads this (I know they probably won't) and they can stop listening to their "yes men" and cool aid drinkers and move in a better direction.

Everything can be improved. Why not Ferrari? The question is, what is an improvement?

Oh, man, I totally understand and was thinking about this the other day. American Muscle cars are *perfect* for this situation. They sound fantastic at startup and idle. Just pulling up to a stoplight, everyone knows the four horsemen of the apocalypse just pulled in. And when you stomp on the gas and you have to pay attention to how it hooks to the road. You have to wind a Ferrari out to the top to get that same effect.

So just get a cheap muscle car that suits you (pick a model, new or classic) and then modify it to drive how you want. Very simple solution to fun cruising in Las Vegas! That's why I've got the Mustang in Vegas. Or get the Countach. That car might be deadly, though.

I certainly wish they had consistent quality across the interior. I love my leather and have no problem with the wear, but my model suffers easily breaking window switches that cost $1k a piece to fix. Hasnt happened yet but it probably will. And while there aren't a lot of things in the 612 that can get sticky, the barrel around the key slot is one big ass sticky piece. You can't see it, but I feel it every time I start the car. Dumb.

    Jump! Jump!

    talk about 1st world problems.

I agree with a bunch as far as the experience of buying, selling, and quality of the car.

As far as how others look at you and treat you, well thats what most on here pay for.

wanna be scared by something that needs to be driven. Viper ACR :)

I don't see why this is a "first world" problem. If you walk into a Chevy dealer and you don't like the way GM treats you or the cars they make, is that a 2nd world problem? You don't think that happens to perspective owners every day?

    What difference does it make?

The point is not being scared with a car. It's falling in love with it.

It's difficult to fall in love with a mannequin.

Street legal Radical. I think I'd kill for a Radical with a tuned bike engine and open (or very near open) exhaust. Something like this...

Cant tell you wether or not to be scared. But your in NV you can just as easily get a concealed carry license as you can find a hooker.

I would argue that the desirability of a car based on how it makes you feel when no one is looking. Driving through Colorado or blasting through the desert with no one around.

There is a street legal version. I've seen one running around London. You'd have to be a bit suicidal,... but it'd be fun.
