Was working at I19 here near Xenia on Wednesday when we watched a Malibu have a nose gear collapse upon touchdown. It plowed into the infield and came to rest, with the pilot and crew egressing safely with no fire. The local airfield, FBO and county response was great.

When the FAA was called, I'm told the response was "Go ahead and put the plane in the Hangar, we're closed due to the Government budget problem and won't be coming out".

I'm surprised they were able to get anyone on the phone, to be honest.

I've been dealing with the FAA on a balloon launch for about 2 months. Finally when I get everyone to agree there, they shut down. It's incredibly frustrating.

It's tough enough when you deal with a government bureaucracy but when you add this madness on top of it, it's to the point of pulling your hair out.

I can't be alone. There must be thousands like me with similar issues with the FAA.

After a year and a half of waiting, my part 135 application was finally assigned a team and the machine started moving a bit two weeks ago. Who knows where the hell this mess will leave things?

I hope the FAA is still processing airplane registration renewals.
All planes now have to renew every 3 years.

I just got my Cessna renewed a month ago, so I'm good until 2016.
But a lot of folks are going to get caught up in this delay if the FAA stays shutdown longer.
Technically, a plane is illegal to fly if the registration is expired.

The FAA website says they're processing renewal requests received on Aug 30th and that date hasn't changed in the last week or so.

that's what I don't get, it seems like everyone is still around, just refusing to do anything. at all the parks and core of engineer access points they have government workers spending their time building fences, making barricades, locking everything up, and then keeping guard to make sure no one gets in. seems like the same amount of resources could be used to keep everything open. Especially because of the backpay law I bet they figure out the shutdown cost the government more than if they stayed open.

And this is what the 2nd amendment was intended to fight. When gov't becomes absurd and repressive and no longer serves... make sure the citizens have enough fire power to repel the tyrants.

Looks like gov will open sooner than later, but there has already been organized mass rally at Amistad lake where they have closed ALL lake access although federal permits have been paid etc. they plan a long line of trucks and boats to meet at the closed gates, who knows what will happen.

Go ahead and launch - They're shut down, so they're not there to do anything........according to them.
