I very much doubt he will be part of future development at RB, would you?

This is the chief aero guy so a sabatical seems a sensible option

He may have some great secrets to share, whether or not they can be relevant to years car he will be eventually working on, is debatable.

He is expected to join McLaren in 2015 once he has completed his "gardening leave" as part of his current contract.

Does he get paid by anyone for that?

or does changing teams mean you get a year off unpaid as a matter of course?

Since he's leaving, RB probably doesn't want him around the new car, but don't want him with a competitor either, so he'll probably get full pay while taking a 'sabbatical'. Nice deal, no? They can't keep him under contract without pay; that's for sure. We'll know more soon, I'm sure. And McLaren says there's more coming.

My question is why didn't Ferrari snatch him first???

Alonso was too scared of the serious competition in the eyebrows department.

News: Prodromou one of many changes - McLaren
Red Bull will hold onto its head of aerodynamics Peter Prodromou for as long as it possibly can, despite McLaren revealing the news that it has lured him back to Woking.

McLaren has confirmed it has agreed a deal for Prodromou to return to its team after he left to join Red Bull in 2006. However, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has made clear that Prodromou will not be released from his contract early, meaning he will not swap teams until 2015.

"Peter's a valued member of the team, he's making a valuable contribution and we have got tremendous strength and depth within the team," Horner said. "The content of any contract is obviously confidential, but the duration of his contract runs for quite a while yet and we are certainly in no rush to release him early. He will be with the team until the end of his existing agreement."

Peter wants to be the next Newey, and he can be. Peter just needs a venue where he's not in anyone's shadow, and Mclaren is perfect for that, absolutely perfect. Hope he does well, and I certainly hope it's before 2015.
