Not me. I was looking forward to my Bruins ushering his Lame Kitten arse out of college football.

Whoever inherits the team this year will have a lot of injuries to deal with and will be without their best player (Marquis Lee). Teams will still beat them up this year, but there is a ton of under-utilized talent on that team (despite the recruiting restrictions)

I bet the fans at UT...as in Tennessee...are lovin' it!

Yep, Longhorn coach-in-waiting Saban might prefer Tinseltown weird that of Austin. ;)

Heck, Saban might just coach both next year and face himself in the title game...that would be epic. :D

Kiffin was never qualified, and it just goes to show that the original hiring process (for top jobs at many schools) is not professional, but rather based on how people interact socially.

Kiffin isn't the only such misfire. Franchione comes to mind, but Franchione was at least lucky.

    Kiffin isn't even lucky.

As one Pac 12 coach phrased it; "Kiffin was born on third base but swears he hit a triple".

Monte Kiffin is the only reason this blight was cast upon the world of college football.

I went to the Bama - Ole Miss game. Surprised Freeze didn't kick the field goals when he had a chance. Took nine points off the board, in my opinion. 16-9 is a much different game in the fourth. Saban didn't hesitate and took the field goals, including a career long 53 yarder by Foster. Maybe Ole Miss doesn't have a kicker (?) but Freeze will live and learn. I like him but he'll have to put more emphasis on defense if he wants job security in the SEC. Petrino comes to mind. He never beat Saban in five attempts and only came close once.

He called a long pass on 3rd and 2. That should be a running play. There is an entire group of current offensive coordinators at the lower-tier schools who *all* think that they are "outsmarting" the old guys by throwing on a passing down.

It rarely works. The old guys aren't fooled. And when you aren't fooling them, you are supposed to instead beat them with either speed or brute force. And if you can't do any of the above, you are supposed to kick (on 4th) or play conservative on 3rd so that you don't *give* away the game.

That's why I was so pleased to see Alabama's offensive coordinator go to Colorado State as their new head coach this year. He would make bone-headed calls like that. He did it in the Texas A&M game in Tuscaloosa at the end of the game last year, in fact.

Freeze was calling the wrong plays and failing to take the field goals. You can't gamble like that and keep it close against Alabama.

If Alabama does it (e.g. last year), they are good enough for talent alone to typically make up for the coaching error. Not many teams have that luxury.

Ole Miss has some on-field talent. There was many a play where individuals were winning their blocks. Better play-calling could have made that game closer.

Jim McElwain has been at CSU for two years now. Doug Nussmeier is in his second year at Bama calling plays/offensive coordinator. Both have BCS championships under their belts, so bone-headed might not be the right word.

With that said, I was frustrated with 7:00 min to go we elected to throw three straight passes, all incomplete or short gains. Didn't even have the ball a minute. I think the score was still 16-0, so two scores. At least try and milk the clock a little more...

Ole Miss only dropped three spots for their shutout loss to Bama. I guess that is a moral victory. I'm really surprised (not) that USCe only dropped one place for their near loss to UCF. aTm moving up one for their near loss is also a big surprise (not). Not many upsets so far this year overall. I would say that the ACC has definitely pulled the biggest upsets by Clemson and Miami. I am pretty sure they would both be about 3-7 spots higher if they had the SEc branding working for them. aTm is a good example. Previously they were mediocre, and rarely made the top 25. Now that they have the good brand they start high, and are hard to knock down when they lose or play poorly. It looked like lowly Arkansas was going to win until the TD very near the end of the game.

The only teams in the AP top 20 with one loss are SEC teams. That is pretty odd 1/3 of the way through the season.

In other words, you may be undefeated, but that doesn't trump a 1 loss SEC team. The question is how the voters will respond to 2 and 3 loss SEC teams. The worm is turning...

    GO CANES!!!

aTm won by 12 points. Never trailed. The game was played in the rain, and the 2nd half monsoon was so intense that aTm switched from pass-attack to all-run, showing that they have depth and aren't just a one-trick pony.

The running attack chewed up the clock. It switched the entire character of the game. It was no longer a shootout. And that's still a two-score win over the home team.

aTm was winning 38-33 after 3 quarters over Arkansas, who lost to the Rutgers last week. Certainly not a good team. I guess you can claim a big win, but aTm has not looked very good defensively all year. Certainly not top 10 good.

I would probably place them in the top 20, maybe around 17 or so. Who have they beat? Rice, Sam Houston, SMU, and Arkansas? That's pretty weak.

Not to go P&R but this is a crappy (potential) impact of the gov't shutdown...

Government shutdown threatens cancellation of college football games involving service academies - ESPN

Interesting to learn that Navy's program is self-supported while Air Force and Army aren't.

Not to pick nits, but the Navy does not rely on any budgeting approval from the House to operate. It is the only branch of the armed services with this characteristic.

The main thing to keep in mind this week is that Miami MUST win against Georgia Tech, the Jeckyll and Hyde of college football. Let's keep our eye on the ball...

I don't ever bet on sports, mostly because I am just no good. I don't think I have ever even done it but once when I was in Vegas one weekend just for the helluvit. Probably was only $20. I don't even remember now

This week I was within an eyelash of laying about $5000 on Georgia Southern and the points AND another $5000 on Auburn winning. Not a joke. I almost didn't talk myself out of it. 10 ****ing K.

    oh well

Speaking of betting, what are the odds on the Noles' freshman QB Winston winning the heisman?! He's got an enormous game in 2 weeks but he is a points machine so far

I have a feeling they may be done with giving it to a freshman, even if he deserves it.

Haaaaaa! I agree 100%. And I was one of the folks clamoring for Johnny $$s to get it last year. Manziel is the real deal on the field but the Heisman probably has a better shot at going to Dustin Pedrioa than Winston this yr!
