It's not a FERRARI. The headers won't implode. The switchgear won't get sticky. The dash won't shrink. Unwashed like you can't appreciate the drama, prestige and self worht the Ferrari offers.
This is news? BTW: I lost enough value in my F430 spider to buy 1 of these C7's and a Lexus. I'm not worried about devaluation. The car I'm replacing it with (my Maserati spider) has lost 80 grand in value. After trading back my 458 spider (luckily I got all my money back), I can instead buy: 1 fully loaded Corvette C7 convertible (new) 1 Alfa 4C (new) 1 512 BBi (in darn good shape) Am I crazy? I don't think so.
Now that hurts but knowing so it has to hurt you even more I saw my first C7 last week. It was alright. Looked like a Camaro.
And a Ferrari is just a Ferrari. They cost 4-5 times what a Corvette does for a 40% subjectively better car. Options just make the ratio worse. Ferrari has the mystique and they know it. More technology goes into making a Corvette than does a Ferrari. Simple economies of scale. No Ferrari costs over a billion to develop. Nothing. Apollo Astronauts drove them. Not a bad clientele. Agreed, but I'd trade all 3 for a 288 GTO!
Keith sorry to argue with you but my three ferraris hve not had many problems nor any you have mentioned. They are expensive to maintain and maybe that was your point. Each model has gotten better. My 458 has been very good. My only complate is you cannot get a manual from Ferrari anymore. I also like Corvettes. These cars have always been reliable. My 1954 Vette drives as it did in the day. The new Vettes even handle fairly well. They are good cars and bargains of the century for such performance. I think Corvette has caught them in handling but they do handle differently so that is debatable. I like them so much when my 2014 shows up I will have 4 Vettes. Heck I like them all. Best Lee
Mayor, please donnot pick on my freind Luscious Wastewater. Some off those replica Ford Gts are very good, others not so much. Seriously I am impressed he has a car like that while in college. He must be doing something right. I saw my first 2014 vette in person, two weeks ago. I think it is a stretch to say it looks like a camaro. But so what they are nice looking cars. I drove a 2014 580hp Camaro at my local Chevy dealership. I was thinking of trading in my 2013 Shelby Mustang which has 665hp. I think the Camaro is much better looking, plus it has independant rear suspension , not a live axle like the Mustang. I just could not do it. The Mustang power was just to much to walk away from. Camero is a great car tho. Best Lee
The only news that guy got from the dealer was old news. Take any of these high end cars, most but not all experience a significant decrease in value. I read one article in a Porsche magazine that recommended purchasing a car that was about 4 years old. The biggest depreciation already occurred and any decrease thereafter would be significantly less. However at that point in time there is a potential for increased maintenance costs.
One thing that might be helping the depreciation on the GT40 replica market is the fact the Ford GT has been seeing steady gains over the last few years. So if someone was considering a Ford GT purchase, but the market has out priced them, a continuation car might be an option.
The only thing the FGT and the GT40 have in common is the FGT is a modern replica of the real thing. The FGT is a well behaved civilized auto for older gentleman like my friends Lee and The Mayor who seek a smooth and comfortable ride. Much like the new Corvette I'm sure. I once considered a brand new yellow Z06 but could not bring myself to sport the prerequisite gold chain and half unbuttoned Elvis shirt. I just could't do it. Anyway... will be curious if they can do anything to rid the C7 of the Camaro look when they bring out the Z06 version. I'm sure it is to meet side impact requirements but I absolutely dislike the broad and heightened doors that seem to be showing on all American sports cars these days i.e. Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and now the C7. Not a good look IMO.
Time to get this thread back from the land of the lost... First pre-production Convertible in the wild Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had not thought about that as a driver of value. I have found my 2005 Ford GT to be fun to drive and very reliable. I always thought those points and the looks were the main drivers, Pun intended Great post jim Best Lee
First convertible picture I have seen, Nice lines. As I remember you ordered a convertible. I am so glad they bpought the StingRay name back. My Coupe should be getting close. Best Lee
I can see your point as the C7 coupe has some radical changes in the top and rear that make it more distinctive than the C6. However, this is a much more aggressive looking shape IMO and the top design is completely different than C6. It looks lower and more streamlined to the shape.
Wow, the 'vert looks excellent. That shape really lends itself to cutting off the roof. I'm a coupe person, but if I was buying, I'd have to put some serious thought into the drop top. Well done, Vette. Mark
And I think it looks better with the top down than the coupe. The lines flow better and it doesn't have the black vents in the rear fenders.
That statement is partially true. The biggest thing they have in common is the shape of the beautiful MK1. I like both for different reasons.
Saw one today for the first time...great presence...and though still don't "like" the black trim I dislike it less in person than in pics D). Red over red... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I still haven't seen one yet, and one of the biggest Corvette dealers in the country is not far away (Criswell Chevrolet). Looks good, can't wait till someone puts bigger wheels on it to fill out the wheelwell gaps a bit.
I'm buying mine from Criswell. They have about 20 of them there right now. Talk to Mike Furman -- in charge of Corvette sales. Great guy!
Comments from the mayor about Ferrari 458 Ownership... "I'm tired of idiots following me everywhere and homeless people running up asking for a handout. I have nothing about handouts for homeless but there's also something about my personal safety and that of my passenger when some stranger runs up after me at every stop light." "I'm tired of worrying about stupid people putting door dings in the aluminum skin and knowing each one is another 200 bucks out of my pocket -- along with the hassle and disappointment." "And, I'm bored to death. The cars today are for doctors and lawyers to drive them to the office. There's so little emotion today. They are too perfect when I want something less perfect and more fun to drive. I want to feel like a race driver, not a doctor. I want to live a fantasy, not reality. Reality BLOWS. I'm an overweight, out of shape 50 something. I want to think I'm Steve McQueen and not Videl Sassoon." "I'm tired of the cops following me waiting for me to go 5 mph over the speed limit or fine me for no front plate." "I'm tired that the only way you can drive them with any sort of anger is on a track or you will be in jail for the weekend." ...Appears mayor with his most recent 2014 Corvette purchase,is falling into the same set of self created circumstances, he so vehemently rallied against. I wonder if mayor's new Corvette is Red??!!, being that mayor complained about all the undue attention his red 458 was attracting?!...Alex
