So actually I can blame all of this on Joe Mac. He generously sold me his Car lift. Of course I cannot just put it in my garage without totally creating a new Man Cave. So let the construction begin. So in the end it will be fully insulated with cabinets, ceiling roof mounted exhaust fan,16 foot loft ceiling with full ceiling lighting, heating A/C,paddle fan. Stereo built in,flat screen TV, tile floor and of course ...a lift. Super excited so I thought I would share the progress. Jon in Delaware

    Jon,

    1. Let's get one thing straight -- you have to THANK JoeMac for that. Only person who can BLAME him is your WIFE! :)

    2. Could you please post even smaller pics? I don't like to recognize what I'm looking at!

    3. You realize you'll have to have the gang over once it's complete for a final inspection or perhaps admiration

All in good fun! Congrats and enjoy! I for one am looking forward to eventually building out my own garage / man-cave, but will wait until the next house.

Dennis fantasizing about my future garage in Pennsylvania...

What an exciting project. If you are doing the work yourself give me a call, I'll kick in some manual labor.

Alex, the exhaust fan is to evacuate all the B.S. that will be spoken, i.e. "I'm the fastest guy on the track", "It's not my fault it was the guy in behind me" ect.

HaHa Exactly!! Actually the details of the Exhaust fan are that it is mounted in the ceiling and has retractable louvers. When you throw the switch the fan draws air up and out. Opening the windows or slightly cracking the Garage door open causes a pretty aggressive air flow. If you are working with a smelly substance like paint or glue or you had black Bean soup for dinner the night before then this helps a lot. Also of course if its cool outside and hot in the garage that too is a great use :) The paddle fan on the ceiling helps circulate the heat or the AC when the exhaust fan is not in use. As for me doing the work myself Jay . I am honored that you would even consider that as a possiblity. I only can refer you to the mini pictures posted earlier in the thread to prove that my skills are in pushing pencils for a living and not much more than that :)

I've recently done limited research on 4 posts...

Greg Smith has an Atlas Pro 8klb $1,995 (no tax), $150 for delivery...and recommend a company called Garage Services to deliver and install for $650.

Lift Plus Depot offers $2,500 installed + oil.

Luckily found a way to fit 3 cars on my side of the garage...no need for a lift...for now... :)

My neighbor has a Greg Smith 4 post and is happy with it. Great for storage. I have a Mohawk asymmetric two post. This is good for mechanic work, but I wouldn't recommend it for storing cars.

It will be nice to see the finished product. Maybe this winter the C&C garage tours should be resurrected. I'd be willing to host one.

Thanks for the info. I was expecting a lot higher cost so that is sorta good news :) Now i just have to find a car worthy of putting up on that lift!!!

    Jon .
That's exactly the lift I purchased. The installer suggested was used as well. Perfect delivery and perfect install. I will up load some pics later today. The lift is very functional for both storage and repair. Using a bottle hydraulic jack you can raise the car while on the lift to do a wide variety of wheel off work to the car. Storage lifts are much more functional for a variety of cars due to shallow drive on drive off capability. Most " arm lifts" while superior for mechanics are a PAIN IN THE A__ __ To use on low cars and cars with very specific jack points like the 430 and especially the Lotus. The project is 80% complete.

So you and the dog planning on having a nice loooong relationship?

Because those man cave rules are not exactly, um, enticing to women who watch Bridges of Madison County while simultaneously making dinner and asking what you'd like to do later in the evening for fun.

Now women who pee standing up, burp and fart while smoking a stogie and scream for the quarterback to heave the damn ball to the open wide out? Well, they will probably find your rules very livable. :D

Its just in the Man Cave that those rules apply. Man has to have his space. Besides Christine suggested the Man Cave should have some rules so I adopted these . Thanks for worrying for me :)
