Go to show what the typical impression are of P1 when you have not seen it in real life. It is not a traditional design persay and you will probably only get it if you understand proper race car design proportions and features.
LaFerrari's hood has two vents, not an intake. Also it is impossibly low, ground clearance is less than 4 inches and the overal height of the car is just 1.1 metres. I guess that the pictures fool.
It shows what great design is and how fast real race cars are compared to "Hypercars". GT3 is about 560HP and races at 2950LB. The BMW Z4 uses the same tires as many race cars at the Ring but is faster. All of the top teams have great drivers. GT3 is the class to be in if you're going for first overall at The Ring.
GT3 911's and Audi R8's are running close to this time in races at The Ring as well. This is the class we're going to be in in 2015. I'm glad Ferrari GT3's will be racing the 24 in 2014 and hopefully in 2015.
On the road I'm sure it's a blast. It also may be on short tracks for a lap. I remain doubtful that it will be a Ring stunner.
absolutely hauling the mail! 560hp, ~3000lbs.... insane cornering speeds. what is the vmax down the long stetch? 180mph?
I figured it would be around that mark. so the key to this track is cornering speed. and it's darn bumpy!
It is and it's also crowned so it's a very good test of how a car will drive on real roads. That's why so many manufactures test there.
Thank you Popeye, I am only a ex chief race engineer for a successful DTM team, now I am retired. When I say proper I mean as effective as possible.
Compared to the Cross Bronx Expressway it's billiard smooth. What's your point? The Ring is a lot closer to real roads than most racetracks. So far the only one of these three that has a time worth reporting is 918.
I have to disagree with you there. Those new cars have different driving modes (normal, sport, race...) for a reason. No one is going to drive them full on on normal roads.
All three of them are being driven by their manufactures on the Ring as fast as they can. The Ring is a toll road with no speed limit that anyone can drive any road legal vehicle on. I drive all of my cars on the road in race setting always.
And this explains my point. There's no point of driving them in race mode on the road if you're not going to extract the car's full potential. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Of course I have. I've driven cars at my 100% on regular roads. The Historic Targa Florio and The French Quarter Classic. Both were under Police supervision. At The Historic Targa Florio I did stay at the speed that the Police Motorcycles could reach about 165 MPH. The Roads of The Targa Florio are a LOT worse than The Ring. The section of the Highway at The French Quarter Classic where I touched 200 MPH were about the same as The Ring's long straight.
