The FCS warning light comes on when starting my 2001 550,but goes off shortly after. What should I do.

Hugh- Bunch of 550 experts here, not me, but will occasionally happen if parked on non-level spot. Also check and see if the front actuator wires have twisted, a common 550 fault. Download a 550 workshop manual at ferraridatabase.com for more details and a list of what can cause suspenion warning lamps.

    Hugh,
I have never seen or heard of a FCS light so I did a search and found the following post.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/456-550-575/84361-550-cold-weather-fcs-light.html

It appears to be related to the fuel cooling system. I looked at the parts manual and it shows a Fuel/Freon Heat Exchanger fitted to USA and Canadian models. If you use the search function and search FCS you will find some additional information.

Whoops, got that one wrong. Was thinking suspension lamp. The Fuel Cooling System is used on the 550 because the injection system has a return from the engine to the main fuel tank and the fuel is too hot to dump straight into the tank. Eliminated on the 575M, which has a returnless system.

Funny, I also have a 2001 550 and noticed this the other day.... I wonder if it's got to do with the change in the ambient weather. Always goes off after 10 or 15 seconds.

Funny, I got an FCS light for the first time ever briefly just today. I was moving cars around this morning, A/C off. Car drove flawlessly 425 miles yesterday, 120 of them on the track.

Check your a/c system pressures. You may be low on 134a. That's the first place I would look before doing anything else. Merceds has used this system for years, heck as far back as the 80's in the slclass and s class benzs.

    Terry,
On my 98 Maranello there is no fuel cooling system. According to Ricambi this began in MY 1999?

Pete- Affirmative, only on US and Canadian MY99 and later and looks like the system was heavily revised in 2000 from the first version. Likely had to do with excessive gasoline fumes caused by the hot fuel dumping into the fuel tank, especially when low on fuel. Remember, California has those weird rubber bellows on the fillers at gas stations to prevent gasoline fumes from escaping while refueling and these were all 50 state cars. My best guess.
