Geez. That is a scary thought--a bike going that fast for that long. That's averaging over 105 MPH, for the lap, right?
160 km/h average on a standard road bike Comparable times to these hypercars for 1/100 of their price
No - the comments in the CAR article that came out today are the most they seem to have said publicly about their efforts at the Nurburgring, unless you wish to count Ron Dennis' statement at Geneva that the time they release will be sub- 7:00. Yes, at this point the 7:04 that gets bandied about was (to borrow a piece of their headline) a "[RUMOUR]" reported by a blog that keeps their eyes/ears on the Ring. Then, as happens with stories in the internet, it got picked up by countless other blogs and repeated to the point of appearing factual. Also fans of other marques have lofted it like a trophy of failure - since rumors are always correct, right? While it may be true that 7:04 is the fastest lap the P1 has completed up to this point, it does not guarantee that will be the fastest lap the car ever completes. For instance, up until today I've not seen a single photo of the P1 at the Ring with less than 2 people in the car. If you are truly attempting to lay down your very best time that's not usually something you do with an extra 150lbs or more taking up the passenger seat. Let's also remember that the 918 made a 21 second improvement from its first published time to the 6:57 record they now hold. While that early time did involve a standing start, that difference surely doesn't account for all the improvement they made with their car. I certainly can't guarantee anyone that the P1 is going to break the magic 7:00 threshold, but we know that was McLaren's target and a lot of work has gone into achieving that. I'll be surprised if they don't have it in hand soon enough. >8^) ER
"I wouldn't expect too much as it's been wet most of the time. Even as I write I can hear the car leaving T13, but I can hear the little bit of rain against the tin roof. Weather forecast is awful though."
I know it was damp, but not as awful as you described it. Anyway, it doesn't look too bad now, 13°C and not as windy as yesterday. Nurburgring Live Webcam / Web Camera - Updates every minute!

It was a little damp yesterday, so they couldn't put on a good lap time. The weather isn't looking bad now, they will probably be out on the track for some private time very soon. Maybe in the next hour or so.
No but the person who sent me that is. The Ring is a LONG lap. You can have bright sunshine on one part and rain/snow on another. Perfect laps at this time of year are rare. A poster here claimed that P1 had broken 918's time. In the reported weather I'd find that very impressive.
Anyone noticed there is no windshield wiper? I bet they took out the motor for it too and god knows what else. Stock car, right!
Yes but since last time at the Ring the wiper has disappeared, which could be considered cheating. Do you think they'll reattach it for an hot lap? On the same basis they could have removed the aircon, windows' motors, infotainment sys, replaced glass for polycarbonate and so on. At least for the 918 the editor of sport auto was there to supervise and, along with him, all the windshield wipers. Allegedly the back spoiler was fixed in the top position which could imply a missing motor there too, but that also produces more drag and slows the car down. I just don't trust mclaren anymore.
As they say if they wil break lap record they should call all customers that got cars back to Woking to update their cars to latest new no wiper spec
Or maybe they finally cracked the hydrofobic tech that was initially rumoured to be in development for this "spaceship of hypercar". Or maybe with those tyres in the rain, looking in front of you is the last of your problems. Either way, if I was one of the yet to be 375 future customer, I would already be feeling the full "retro fit" coming.
ERRRRRRRRR .... Man that term is so insulting ... why did they have to style it so it looks like a F430? Pete
