Older WRX/STi is a much better drive as well. The new ones feel less connected and a lot bigger.

The '08 imo looks much better than the '11 or newer models but I am a bit biased because I think the '07's look better than all of the newer versions.

A bit of a sad day today, I just sold our wagon... I posted it here before, it was bought new in May 2007, an Audi S4 Avant, factory ordered with Sprint Blue exterior, silver leather interior, 6 speed manual trans. It's been a fabulous car, extremely reliable, and nobody offers anything like it anymore (sporting wagon, 340 hp V8 6 speed manual, AWD). Sold it after 6.5 years, 70K miles, for $29K.

Replaced it with a hatchback... no manual trans any more, but still a blast to drive. 420 hp, yet gets 20% better highway gas mileage than the S4 Avant. Factory ordered with Exclusiv Shiraz Red paint, silver interior again, our new Audi S7... (cargo capacity is only a few % less than the S4 wagon!)

I'm a few months in with my s4 wagon and would love to know how the switch to the newer transmission has been. My guess is that's where the majority of the fuel savings come from.

I love the 6speed but 3000rpm+ in 6th at highway speed is not needed in a v8...

The S7's 4.0 twin turbo V8 has direct injection, which is worth a few percentage points in improved efficiency, the taller top gear is worth a few points, but the biggest share of the improvement will be from the cylinder deactivation at cruise speeds on the highway. The Audi V8 shuts down 4 cylinders at light partial throttle and steady speeds - it's seamless and very effective. There's no way to tell whether it's running on 4 or 8.

    Congrats!

The S7's have really grown on me. I'm gonna try and get one as a loaner when I take my car in next time.

Same car as yours; ironically, we get the best mpg (22) at a 'light' 80mph in 6th gear. Slowing down to the speed limit, the mileage drops to the mid-high teens. Thank you gov!

Lusting after the OP's new hatch........

Very interesting. The color on your new S7 is fantastic - enjoy her in good health.

For AMG fans, be aware the e63 4matic Estate is now being delivered.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deEGyrpviCI[/ame]

FINALLY, a decent performance wagon back in the US!

Gave up waiting on Ingolstadt to bring the MkIII RS6 Avant.

Our delivery date is Feb '14, but they're already on US shores.

    0-60 in 3.4

    Great stuff.

Such an awesome wagon, if only the V-wagon had AWD. The 4matic estate is seriously perfect from a technical point of view.
