Price Check: Scud w/11,500 miles

Just want opinions on value on a '08 Scud with over 11K miles on it.. as we know, miles are everything on these cars, and I've never seen a Scud with higher miles than this. Has all options (but no stripe) and the color is red. Located in North Carolina.

What would you think would be a fair price, assuming a clean PPI?

 

My recommendation is first to do some research on the car. At that mileage if the car was tracked probably will need a clutch change. Make sure the PPI mechanic has the equipment to be able to check that (pro-forma at Ferrari dealer). Right/left play in the steering wheel appears on some. Yellowing of rear motor side panels, and headlights. Believe price depends on a number of factors which can be revealed through good due diligence and PPI.

 

I wouldn't do a scud with that many miles, period. I'd put it at $160k.

Stripe was a $9k option also.

 

2200 miles a year=high mileage?

For a car that is made to be tracked, and most of the time is by the owner, I'd say yes. Is it a big deal? Could be. Think of all the expensive things that would need to be replaced, ceramic brakes, clutch, and wear and tear on the parts that are RUN HARD on the track.

A very good PPI and the right price are the key, IMO.

Do you know the seller? A nice, well taken care of care doesn't mean it hasn't been beat to hell either, from my experiences. I have a friend with a 911 GT3 who has tracked and beat the hell out of his car, and it always has a fresh coat of wax on it on monday morning. (and wow has he paid the price for tracking that car in repairs!)

I don't think it's high miles. Also I'd guess most people don't even go to the track, they just like having fancy fast cars. It's made for the track if it's well maintained, wouldn't scare me one bit. Of course you'd have to have mileage price adjustment based on comparables...

 

I politely disagree. Yes the scud is a lightened track ready version of the 430, no argument. But implying that most scud owners track their cars is a bit far fetched. Now the 430 Challenge cars are likely tracked.

I will agree that tracked cars need an extra special PPI that investigates the CCBs, ball joints, bushings, and clutch. But besides that, some track time is fine. The Scuds that were used in the Ferrari school have sold at a proportionately reduced price.

 

11k is no problem, Scuds are wonderful cars. Get a proper PPI done and enjoy what is one if the greatest cars available.

 

I have 8600 miles on mine, no track miles. The car runs perfectly and will be over 11000 miles after next summer. These cars can be driven. Do your due diligence and don't eliminate a car from consideration because of the miles. These cars are not museum pieces, although they are great to look at, they can be driven and that is where the majority of the fun is at. So have some fun.

I'd guess that over 80% of us owners do Not track our cars regularly - running costs are too high.
I've tracked my 16M once and that'll be it. Ill beat on my Loti instead. I have many friends with Scuds and they have tracked zero to 1-2 times as well.

As said most others drive majority on the street. 11k miles is nothing.
I have 13k miles on mine and it's perfect.

Obviously history of maintenance and service should be well documented as well as PPI for this car.

 

I would bet it is even more than 80%. I've never seen a scud at any CO track events and there are quite a few around. Actually, very few modern Ferrari owners ever track their cars. Perhaps the high cost and the fact insurance won't cover track damage is a factor. I have over 1000 track miles on my '05 430 and it never showed any ill effect other than brakes and tires. It still has the original clutch now with 24K on it.

yep most of the Ferrari owners and buyers are these guys who don't track and worry about "oh no 11,000 miles too high"

 

A car with 11,000 miles properly maintained and well cared for would be better than a 3,000 mile beater.

 

Agree, but how would you know? Odds are greater that the 11k mile car was driven/tracked hard just due to increased seat time. I don't know anyone that drives a scud like an old lady!

 

$160k would be the fair sale price, assuming it has the US Carbon package. Basically the scud pricing model that has proven accurate (yes there are occasional outliers both high and low) suggests a non-stripe, red, 2008 with carbon package and 10k miles would be $160k. Please realize even a +/- 5% range for a car like this (based on owners and condition, if not other factors) would give a range of expected sale prices of $152k to $168k.

Hi Dave, you have a 3 pedal car correct? That must be a blast on the track The most fun I ever have with my Ferrari is on the track. I rarely see other Ferrari's on the track, what a shame not experiencing the sound of the engine at full song in a safe legal environment.

 

Not in the UK it isn't, perhaps we just like driving them more!
Most Scuds currently for sale have well over 10k - must be our great weather.
(high mileage example with 26k miles for £120k, low mileage example with 800 miles for £160k)

 

I know, I was making it clear that it isn't the same in all markets, clearly the car is very capable and high mileage shouldn't be an issue! Engine and transmission are very reliable even with use.

 

It is a 3 pedal and yes it is a blast though I usually take a Porsche and save the 430 as a special occasion. I agree the most fun by far is on a track and I also think the only way to really get to know a car's capabilities (and our own!) is on a track. My observations of Ferraris on public roads indicates there are many owners who could benefit from track and instruction time also.

I'm curious on what you base your statement that it will probably need a new clutch? I have over 16,000 miles on my Scud, more than 1,500 of them track miles, still with the original clutch. My dealer says the clutch still has 70% wear left. Other than brake pads and tires, I have had no repairs. These cars are made to be driven.

While a PPI is certainly a must, I think such extreme concern about 11,000 miles is unwarranted from a reliability perspective (although clearly the price should reflect the higher than average miles).

 

I feel like I'm standing in time...2 years have passed since I got my Scuderia and the benchmark for low miles is still 5k? Lol come on fellas lets be a tad more realistic here.

 

Just deduct from the price for mileage, just like any other Ferrari. Get a clean PPI, and buy it.. then have fun. Simple as that!

 

Agreed, with miles around 2K or less you almost have to be concerned the car was not driven frequently enough to keep everything properly lubed...

 

Amen! Time doesn't stand still.... and neither do these cars unless it's just an ornament in your garage!
