Oh, I guess I didn't understand the wording of your question, he will be getting custom coach work, of course. That's really the point more than anything of the SP program, body work. There are several people that have asked for SP's based on LaFerrari and if they go forward as well, they will have (somewhat) unique body work.

Considering Zonda R did 6:47 with slicks, noticeably less weight than P1 and 760 hp(which is comparable to P1 minus the hybrid) it will be impressive if they can match that... I doubt it, though...

I don't see why not, all of the other SP's are. There is one that is based on an FXX, and that one wouldn't be road legal in most places, but the project has yet to go forward.

Question - a lot of the publicity surrounding the p1 was its 130bs of downforce, how does that compare to other cars? Not LaFerrari - which we don't know yet - but th Enzo, 918, mclaren f1, carrera gt, etc....
Just curious to see the progress of innovation of the past few years....

It was 600 kg of downforce at 160 mph, which equates to just over 1,300 lbs.

Problem with any comparison is some manufacturers simply lie ( the Enzo is a good example ) and other figures don't give any reference to the speed they have been measured at.

On the surface, I wouldn't think the prior generation of hypercars could compare as none of them had these massive retractable rear wings these modern hypercars all seem to have.

If this is true, does anyone actually understand how fast this is?

I mean seriously. Am I the only one that thinks this is mind blowing?

Can't you tell by the stunned silence? ;)

While I have a lot of faith in some of these early sources, let me be quick to remind everyone that these times are still just as much a rumor as the original 7:04 people have been clinging to. McLaren will share their accomplishments at the Ring in short order - then we will really have something to talk about.

It's actually not a surprise at all; all three of these cars should be under seven minutes with the technology and the horsepower they have. As many said, including Jim G, he was
People were surprised that 7:04 was the reported time....

Besides I thought you weren't concerned with the ring times??

Yeah it may be so much faster than the 918 that is actually ruins all of the fun. At least if they were close ya know maybe someone would go out and try again, maybe???

But this, if true, makes it pretty difficult to even compare them. Kudos if true McLaren.

Otherwise, these cars are now TOO fast in my book. Even the CGT is too much car for back roads.

I picked up a cherry E36 M3 LTW. Let me say, it is the best back road driver I have been in. Why? Because it gently lets you know you are about to kill yourself, at relatively sane speeds and thats fun.

Hypercars don't tend to tell you when they are about to kill you...... They just do and thats not fun.

And unfortunately that rush on the edge is what car guys seek. Some know, others dont get it still but go drive an old classic and put your foot in it on some back roads. Youll be doing a third the speed but your heart will pound the same.

Even so, I cant imagine how it must feel to ride shotgun on a 6:40 ring time. If I had the money, I would buy the car and hire a driver to replicate the time with me in the car.....

    over and over again

You're right - I'm not overly concerned with them, but it seems to be all anyone is talking about with these cars lately.

I am concerned about the P1 being sold short based solely on a rumor. Testing is an interesting thing - you can't accurately judge the result if you don't know what the purpose and the variables of the test were.

CGT doesn't have stability control. A modern hypercar has stability control and therefore much easier and safer to drive than a CGT.

You forgot to mention modern tires that go a long way on the CGT and the other car that is affected quite a bit by its tires is the Ford GT.

When I want to feel like I'm on Mr. Toads Wild Ride I take my F40 out. No way you can drive that car on a canyon road at even 7/10ths without white knuckling it. My 12c will easily outperform it without even breaking a sweat. Its all good, just 2 different kinds of fun. On a closed circuit I prefer the modern car. Thats whats so cool about these hypercars, they have dual personalities.

Your so right, after reading about the P1 today, I parked my 991 and brought my 12C home. I still after a year cannot get over the acceleration. It is so fast. But your right the older cars really make you work for it.
