I hear you on the knee room.... but from my experince in tracking a 308 series car... you need all the wheel you can get.. the smaller the wheel the more "turning" you are going to do...unless you have the car tuned for track work, tons of understeern means lots of shuffling the wheel.. smaller diameter wheels look great but suck on the track unless the car is tuned to fit....

also you dont get as much leverage on the wheel... but l like the more room for legs - heel & toe etc...

I would say yes, that would be good for the track. I like the yellow stripe, so you can pick up the position of the wheel quickly without looking at it. The fact that it is thicker than the stock wheel is good, better grip, better feel, and easier to relax the hands on the straights. I had a heavier duty Momo wheel that I used with my 308 when I tracked it, and it was good. But it was round, not flat on the bottom. On the track, don't see that the flat would interfere or be a problem. It might not be great for parallel parking, though. LOL

Thanks Chris, but I think Tom might be right, there may not be enough leverage and understeer could be a problem.

Aren't asymmetrical wheels designed for cars with limited lock?
If you're turning it half a turn in either direction its great. Beyond that it gets unwieldy.

Most wheels are round for a reason.

    But it does look great.

Mike, another option would be something like the one I have.

If it helps, you get the room on your thighs but still have the round upper half.

Very nice Chris, looks much better but it doesn't give you the F1 feeling and look. :D

It is fun looking and you won't be driving nine nine's so anything will work. However if push came to shove you would want to sit upright and close to a larger wheel that is easier to modulate and control. Especially in our rack and pinion cars.

I've driven a 308 race car with a small wheel.. OMG it was really a hand full in tighter turns ... you are all arms and elbows... on the track - in a 308 your hands are at 5 and 10... or 7 & 3... most of the time in the turns... the lock is not enough to keep your hands at 9&3...

in my formula Renault - it was great- but it was set up for very fast turn short radius...

Depends on the track IMO - that looks smaller...more leg room is nice; more energy to turn and correct is tough. Although, I just put a Hill Engineering extension on and that solved it for me. I have a modern car with a smaller wheel, but the 308 wheel feels perfect to me for the car. The modern car has variable servo assist so you can go pretty darn small.

My thoughts exactly. You would want to swap out the rack to get to a very short lock to lock distance. Then you would want to add in power assist so that you could actually turn it without forearms like Popeye's.

Also remember that it might be fine for 'normal' steering inputs at speed around a long sweeper, as an example. However on a track, you need to be prepared for the 'abnormal' at any time. I can't imagine that wheel would be good for trying to catch and correct when the back end steps out.

Looks cool, but not practical in that car, especially on a track.

No,don't do it... its an awful steering wheel for the track if your car is not a dedicated track car. Plus your line of sight to your instrument cluster is blocked.. I had the same steering wheel in my 914 and took it off...

Posted in the momo steering wheel thread. I bought this deep dish suede Sparco wheel for track use. It grips perfectly. Frankly I hate those modern wheels in a 3x8.
