Back in the day some people used to say the CGT had no soul because it was German/a Porsche/teutonic/too well engineered... Then they drove the car...
+1 for Supersports on the CGT. As soon as they came out I put a set on. It is night and day. However, I was also warned about not switching to straight pipes. Apparently the rear end is very sensitive to removing the ballast that the stock exhaust presents. I upgraded to a Kreissieg which has a very similar weight to the stock exhaust and the car is very stable with the supersports. It is an incredible car with this combo and it is unbelievable that the market hasn't appreciated it more. Crazy that it is a fraction of the cost of a F40.
Call up any company in the world and ask them to comment on rumor and speculation. Let us know what they say. The 7:04 time was just a random time recorded under unknown circumstances. Why do they need to comment on it? They told people they were going to deliver a monster, and based on what we see now, they have. Why do they have to respond to a million fanboys on the internet who probably aren't even potential buyers anyway? Everyone calls Ferrari cheaters in test and liars in stats, yet Ferrari doesn't make a press release. Why should McLaren?
At anything under 6:50, the P1 is a blazing success. The haters are gonna hate, but this is a heck of a time. At least . . . give them their due. Ron Dennis delivered.
Borrowing a post by 'NurburgDale' on McLife who claims ownership of the B2G blog: The source I am aware of for the 6:47 lap time is certainly credible, but it is still just a rumor. >8^) ER
Your not an Alfisti then. Alfa Romeo have a proud history, they don't need to pretend to be Ferraris. Pete
More chatter: "Whilst they may have some very fast individual sector times that were obtained over a number of very fast laps....They do not at this point have single lap time to beat the 918....." BTG also spoke of sector stitched together laps earlier. Other's are saying that P1 has a 6:47 lap. Other's are saying P1 has a 6:39 lap. Other's said McLaren would release the time yesterday. Other's are saying they will release the lap after the film is ready. Others are saying the car was "optimised". Others are saying Ferrari always "optimises" their test cars. Funny world...
Agree. I'm an Alfista (Alfisti is plural) and I can say Alfa Romeos had something special till they have been designed in Arese. Now they are almost FIAT rebadged Alfa Romeo. (Giulietta, Mito) It's sad but it's true. Alfa 4c ? A good idea but badly managed .. The car has still problems due to the fact the last rear wheel drive car they developed is from 1976. They = FIAT. The good news is that new Alfas will be developed in Modena with Maserati Than we can hope Alfas magic came back Luque
But that history is long (very long...) time gone. Most of the time they belonged to the Italian state respectively Fiat. They didn't decide independentely for decades... and don't do now. Giulietta and Mito are the ONLY models they have now, beside the 4C. And yes, the 4C is a very nice car. But for the same price the Porsche Cayman is the much better car. I saw the 4C at the IAA, inside it feels cheap and it's low functonality. Too much money for that. The truth is that they have no idea for the future. Just look what they planned 1-2 years ago (new Mito, 4-door Mito, Spider, SUV) and nothing happened. Now they have new plans. Wow: Fiat for the small (= 500), Lancia (!) just rebadged Chrysler. And Alfa-Romeo? No cars like Mito and Giulietta anymore, instead a Maserati Ghibli sister and a smaller Giulia cousin. And a Jeep-SUV cousin. Great ideas.
I would love to discuss with you about this...but I think we shouldn't derail the thread. If you want to discuss this let's do so in the section: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/other-italian/405937-alfa-4c-without-heart-we-would-mere-machines-4.html
That is where you have to like Porsche. No rumour mill, no BS. Just go out, run a time and report to everyone what it did.
918 was "optimized" too as I bet it was missing the rear wing motor but at least I they tried to give a bit of authenticity to the lap with the supervision of Sport Auto. Mclaren I think is trying to pull the shocker now. I think their car was missing quite a few parts if they even had to resort to the very self-evident trick of loosing the bloody wiper, and I think they got a good time. Now they are just deciding what the best time to release it will be. I won't be impressed. OTOH I hope Ferrari never release a time at all. Even if they're fastest. That would piss a few people off.
If you look at the 918 they ran for their lap time they stuffed the wiper way below the cowl to get it out of the air stream. What should have been visible through the windscreen was no where to be seen. Everybody has there own tricks proving, if nothing else, that none of this really matters. >8^) ER
