Just curious as to what a fair price would be for a mint condition (i.e., never been opened or read) first edition - published by J. Barnes (1976) would be worth? TIA.

It would be great if you could really find such an untouched copy of this rather rare first edition.
Hortons Books has a (very good) one for 165 £. Which must be around 265 US$.
No knowledge of an other one. Of course you can find many of the revised edition, they have a different format, and are not very valuable.

Are the pictures the same (quality) in the original as the reprint?

I have both the original and the reprint. The quality of both is vastly different. The reprint is very poor quality.

That's why I asked the question. The pictures are very grainy on the reprint, which I have just received, and looks like a poor photocopy. I'm assuming the text is the same, apart from the reprint having a copy of some build sheets, which it's worth having for? Are the pictures in the original of a better quality that it's worth buying?

Text is all the same. The reprint has some added pages of copies of spec sheets and some tech info, but no additional pictures. You're correct that the reprint "looks like a poor photo copy." As I wrote before, the reprint is very poor quality, so yes of course the original is far better production quality. Worth buying? Well it all depends on what you want, what you are looking for, how you value quality , etc. For me, with my interest and need for reference in the Cal. Spyder's I have both books, and the original is certainly the way to go if you can.

Thank you for your reply. I will look for the original too then as I like to be able to see the detail in the pictures. It's a real strain on the eyes looking at the pictures in the reprint. I've never seen such a poor book for picture quality. I haven't read it yet but I understand the written content is excellent though so it's still a recommended book. What other good books are there on the Cal. Spyders? What do you think of the Stanley Nowak book? I notice that is very expensive to buy.

If you're a California Spyder enthusiast, then I would certainly add the Stan Nowak book to your library. Stan was extremely knowledgeable, a real car guy. He helped me with research on various Ferrari's, and his Cal. Spyder book is a very good one, and is the only other one to have along with the original George Carrick book.

Thank you. Yes, I am a California Spyder enthusiast. They are such incredibly beautiful cars and I would like to know everything about them. I will look out for the Stan Nowak book as well as the original George Carrick book.
