Due to the "famous cracks", I have removed my manifolds and repaired them also removing the pre-cats in the process. I have no CEL/Engine management light on either although I can smell the remaining main Cats working harder to reduce the emissions. The noise level whilst the valves are closed is almost the same as before but it is louder than before whilst they are open. The original heat shields were loose prior to me cutting them off so I opted for the heat proof wrap instead.
This is my first hand experience at this, not a story from a friend of a friend.
I will try to upload some pics.

So what is the myth? That they are hard to replace?

Before i done this, i had read on various forums that by removing the pre cats i would have engine lights coming on and i would have to reprogram ecu's etc. This is not the case with my car, possibly US cars this may happen i dont know, but not on my UK model.

Also the fact they are repairable and you do not have to go and spend a large amount of cash in buying new ones. (that will probably end up like these in a year or two)
BTW they're not hard to remove. A bit fiddly maybe as you need to remove the a/c compressor but not hard.

I just wanted to share this information. Hopefully someone will find this usefull.

Also you don't need to disconnect the a/c compressor pipes. You can just move it to one side thus saving a regas.

If your car is pre-2007 (mid year build) you will have this problem at 10k or so. The later manifolds don't crack. I've put 20k on a new set and they work just fine.

Yes my car is a 2005, however it did have manifolds replaced in 2008 under warranty and these are the ones that i welded. Ive heard of mk1 and mk2 versions but according to my local main agent there is only one part number per manifold and it has not been superseeded??

Also, a good friend of mine has a jan 2008 car and he had to replace his ones too. But he didnt do what i done, he just bought new ones direct from ferrari.

I think there was a third rendition of these which solved the problem. Maybe late 2008 early 2009 when they came out. Good reason not to get an early one without 10k mileage, or factor in cost (8K) for replacement.
