I just read through this entire thread and I congratulate you on your amazing attention to detail. I know what it's like as I once did a total restoration of a 1964 Triumph TR4.
I'm curious as to where you came up with the Rosso Dino with tan interior color combination as the chart you posted seems to say it was Rosso with a Nero interior. Not sure Ferrari ever just had a plain Rosso color.
    Thanks
    Alan

That book only tells you the color the car is at the time and its current known location when the info was taken by whoever provided it to Nathan.

When I started taking the car apart I saw it was orange originally so we contacted ferrari and they said the car was rosso dino on beige. Couldnt tell us boxer trim or not but I could tell as I removed the paint from the rockers and found black, then black then orange.

Plus we know it was changed from its original Rosso Dino on beige to grey on black when it changed hands in 1978.

It's such a pleasure seeing a beautiful car come slowly, painstakingly and correctly back to life. I love the part when all the fresh, clean components get reassembled back into a beautiful spotless package. The transformation can be stunning! Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through this restoration.

The paint goes on today at noon. Pics later this evening!

I love that part too John, fresh suspension and plated hardware going back on a new looking chassis. The only down-side is is its almost a shame to drive them. I just finished doing exactly that on a 308 then had to drive it in the rain for a dyno appointment.

Today was a great day. After 35 years of being the wrong color its back to what it was in paris 1976! This is the base coat which once dry will be color sanded then 2 more coats of base followed by 3 of clear.

Car's owner on left suited up to take a try at spraying some of the paint on his own car. Painter on the right.

Getting the paint on is always a milestone in the progress, looks amazing!
Will the big parking lights on the front have the lens in white or orange color?

This isn't even my car and those pics are eliciting a deep emotional response!

I don't think it is hyperbolic to say that today is a significant day for Boxerphiles.

Not to mention an unforgettable day for Spitfire to be a material part of his incredible project.

Wow, just wow, the Phoenix is rising under Newman's expert care.

so nice to see inside and the level of finish that can be achieved. My 365 is due to go in for bare metal re-spray after Xmas, so this is really nice to follow your progress.

Thank-you for your generous words William. In fact, you're spot on when you say that it was an unforgettable day for me (and for Paul I think). It was almost two years ago that 19271 was purchased and delivered into Paul's more than capable hands. We underestimated just what a dog she was, and we didn't (at that time) realise that she was a bit on the special side too.

Fast forward two challenging years, and she finally took on some Rosso Dino yesterday. I was in the paint booth the entire time and quickly realised why the prep work had been so time-consuming and important -- the paint laid down beautifully and we've yet to find anything major that requires further correction to the body.

It looks terrific in Rosso Dino and I did feel quite emotional once it sank in that we we're really putting her back the way the prototype department had intended her to be in 1976. She looks great in Rosso Dino -- to think that she hadn't been that colour for the last 35 years ... wow, just wow. Anyway, I popped back to the paint shop this morning to snap a couple of photos with the car rolled out into natural daylight . I think you'll agree that the colour pops with the sun on it.

There's obviously much more work to be done, but we reached an important milestone in the project yesterday. Big smiles on my face and Paul's; 19271 is really rising from the ashes.

    Good day Spitfire,

That color looks awesome! Well done! On a secondary note, your Rosso Dino car may have a twin at some point, as mine was originally Rosso Dino as well!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Thanks. Better shots next week I suspect by the time all of the colour coats, and colour sanding, and clear coat and initial polishing have been completed, not to mention hitting the frame etc. with black. No sooner is one step completed than I cannot wait to see the outcome of the next!! I guess this echoes how several of us feel as we watch the resto of 19271 unfold.

The target is to have her stitched together by the end of 2014, so that she's ready for Cavallino in January 2015.

I'm just back from Paul's shop again. It's like BB heaven. Four 512 BB in the same spot with flat 12 engines all over the place. I even came back with an original muffler for my 77 308 GTB. I may never use it but I have one if I ever need.
