It has to have color on all of it by now its been a month I want to see that blue!
Been busy moving house! Anyway Al has primed again and guide coated in blue for a final block sanding, then final primer and finished colour. I will let the pictures do the talking.... The guide coat is a VW blue just to get the surfaces correct then on with the met blue acapulco. I am glad Al is doing all the block sanding, its a big job.
This is it final primer, Al was not happy with a couple of elements so it has been blocked back again, parts trial fitted to make sure paint thickness is not going to create any issues. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Al is a perfectionist, so all of the panel gaps/fitments etc are spot on and have been checked that there is enough clearance for the final paint thickness. I believe he has done the guide coat like this as in reality the car has a lot of flat surfaces so unless these are perfect it will show through in the final job. There are several hundred hours in this process of priming and blocking back, the actual painting of the car is really the least time consuming it is all in the prep. I am hoping colour will be on week after next.....
On ebay listed as a Ferrari bulb holder, it was approx 95gbp, I have only seen two for sale in the last couple of years. It was by chance as I was looking for some 308 bits.
Looks great indeed. Very smooth surface. What type and brand of black sealant are you going to use between panels/wheel arches etc.?
Simon, I've known this car for the past five, six odd years, living not far from Dom, and it always upset me how the headlamp pods never aligned correctly. I always assumed it was the pods themselves that just needed tweaking but really interesting finding this thread and discovering what laid underneath. Sorry to see that there were so many bad repairs but it's fantastic to see the car being properly restored and I will sleep soundly now the lamps fit tightly! ;-) I look forward to watching the rest of the work complete. Cheers
Thanks for the note, the doors have been the biggest headache, there is still a bit of work to do on the passenger door, and we have to fit a new latch, fortunately I managed to find a suitable donor part in Padova at the Auto D'Epoca.
it was going to be acapulco, but a last minute change to tahiti, bit of a gamble but I am sure it will be ok.
Nice to see the proper restoration... a ton of work here! All will be worth it, but will be curious how many man hours go into it at project end.
