Thanks for the response Jeremy. I was interested in the 1/20 Indy cars by CGM. Any leads on that model?

Around $650.00 not including shipping. I am not a dealer.

Ed(model builder) from Island Collectibles is a Hiro dealer. I am sure there are a few more dealers that watch this board.

Sorry I have not responded sooner. I am costantly playing catch up.

Yes, its true I did base my kits on other plastic kits but that fact actually made it more difficult and expensive in my opinion because Hiro starts from scratch but has ALL the equipment needed to make the patterns quickly. And time is money. Also they cast everything in house. I had to rely on casters to make my products and thus increasing my cost more than Hiro's to produce a kit. Thats just another way they save money on production. They can also get products out there and quickly and thats crucial in making money. Turning over product.

Also there current Porsche 908/3 for example has 103 parts in it. My 330P3 had 65 parts in it. So the ratio is not even close to 1/10 the parts as you suggested. Those 40 extra parts comprise the engine and suspension. Thats it.

There is money to be made in this business like any other. You just have to know how to do it and follow through. I speak with Marshall often about this. When dealing with outside vendors to produce our products, thats when the issues arise. Its hard to find reliable casting services. If that problem can get solved I will re-enter the production end. Fisher cast my Abarth for me as a one shot deal and I made very good money with it. Same with the 450S and 908/3 (fisher didn't cast those).

The main important things to remember is to just make sure what you are selling is as accurate as you can make it. Scale Designs kits were just that. Great models. But you need to make a fair profit. Selling to break even is not an option. If I sell any new resin curbside kit for $150-175 that should be enough margin to make it worthwhile. Sell 100 or so and move on to the next. If nobody wants to spend that money, well then scratch build it yourself.

What kills it is the casters. Waiting for product.....then they say they are busy with..whatever.. and then something else comes up.

    I'm not giving up yet.

    Ed

Coming soon from Minidelta in 1/12th scale, the Ferrari P3 Sebring. These are the first test shot pictures sent by Patrick Badot of Minidelta today. Top quality kit to be released sometime early next year. I already have mine on order.

P.S. Ed....don't ever give up. I also have not given up since I do these kits for myself also. By the way, this Minidelta kit is a gift to us. It's going to be that good!!

The P3 Spyder looks good but the rear bonnet vents are incorrect. They should be a little more UNeven. Easy to fix and if thats the only problem then the kit will be great. I hope he put in the detail of the uneven nose opening. I'll be getting one.

Here is a pic of the vents:

Wow.... Tom those two models look terrific, and I am really in love with that Lusso. And..... thankfully neither are any shade of resale red, auction red, arrest me red, or "Ferrari red."

They do make alot of 1/18th kits in very limited numbers. ABC and other Italian companies produce them along with Chinese/south east Asian and a few European companies , but they are generally very poor quality. Most 1/18th scale collectors do not build models but there are a few like you. 1/18th diecasts are taking over the world, but those are not kits.

If you see any 1/18th kits that look pretty good feel free to post here. I have seen a few real nice 1/18th transkits over the years mainly from Robustelli.

By the way, the next Airtrax Ferrari will be the Ferrari 330GT 2+2 in 1/24th scale

Wow! Just can't help wishing they could put aside McLaren for a moment to produce something else... perhaps in red...

That Minidelta model looks amazing too!

There are a couple of products that can do a somewhat decent job of replicating the chrome finish and one or two comparison tests are available on the web. I'll try to post some links later on.

As promised some links to information on chrome finishes for models:

    Alclad II Lacquers:
    http://alclad2.com/finishes/high-shine/

    Killer Cans Killer Chrome:
Alsa Corp | Killer Cans Killer Chrome

    Spaz Stixs Ultimate Mirror Chrome:
    Ultimate Mirror Chrome

Comparison test from Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts site - Chrome Paint Test: Killer Chrome vs. Alclad II vs. Spaz Stix

There are also a couple of powder alternatives to paint sold as MGM Hobby Super Magic Powder, Wave Kosutte Ginsan and C1 Metalizer. These are extremely fine powders applied over a primer and buffed to a gloss finish.

All of the paints go over a black gloss finish. Some can be clear coated and some can not. Costs range from $8.00 for a bottle of Alclad to about $40 for a can of Killer Chrome. A kit of primer, chrome and clear from Killer Can is $129.
The MGM and C1 powders can be found on Ebay. The Kosutte Ginsan can be ordered from Japanese hobby shops.

There are many comparison tests and Youtube videos on these products online.

Please use a respirator with all of these products! The powders are so fine as to be extremely hazardous!
