US GP Austin 2013 Advise

Shameful.

Lots of speculation (and it doesn't seem top far off base) that they're having problems paying their bills.

I bought through F1.com so my tickets will be at the gate (as was always the plan for me), I wonder if I'll be getting the nice tickets I was expecting or not. It's a minor thing....but it's one more thing.

Hopefully when COTA goes bankrupt someone will step in who knows motorsports and knows how good the facility is to buy it.

 

Everyone I know received their tickets this week (4 groups around the country).
This won't turn out to be the fiasco that is being portrayed;

It already has. I'm tweeting right now with several different people still waiting for tickets. If it wasn't already a fiasco it wouldn't have been in all the local TV news, Autoweek, the Statesman, Jalopnik, and others.

If you think tickets still being mailed out the Saturday before an F1 GP is just fine, then I just don't know what else to say.

 

Hey folks, I'll be in Austin starting Wednesday, I'll have wheels.

I'll be headed out to the track on Thurs. to pick up my tickets. If any Fchatters need a ride out to the track to visit will call shoot me a PM and we'll be happy to give you a ride.

It's already turned into a total cluster. I paid for tickets right when they went on sale in March, I literally got them a few hours ago. On top of that, they were printed on generic TicketMaster stock and sent via bulk mail when I was charged for Fedex. How they thought this would considered just be a minor inconvenience is beyond me.

Yeah it's....not good. We're hearing some other very disturbing things, too, but I'm sure it all come out soon enough if true.

It doesn't matter what kinda happy **** they post, people just throw it in their face & hammer away on the tickets, the Fedex Tracking charges for USPS service, etc. Same on our page. We've been posting a lot about the tickets, sure, but also other stuff about the race. No matter what we post, people are hammering away. One guys's telling people to do chargebacks on their credit cards over the Fedex/USPS thing. Vance found their Austin BBB rating. "F". Another guy posted this:

TAKE YOUR PURCHASE RECEIPT WITH YOU TO THE TRACK. Justy do it. I'd rather have it and not need it to prove I bought the tickets, than to need it and not have it...

The rumor is that, (and its only a rumor right now) that duplicates of many many tickets have been printed. My concern is that if the rumor is true, you may show up to the gate all excited to get in only to find that your tickets have been used....

This is a fiasco by any measure. It's one thing for people to not receive their tickets from a reseller, its quite another for people to be leaving for the race city without tix because COTA didn't send them out. And we haven't even mentioned how they sent out the tix USPS bulk, but charged everyone for FedEx.

 

So, I still need to get my race tickets but I have been scared to order them as I feel like I won't be receiving them. So would you (people who know) suggest willcall or winging it and buying tickets when we get there? (Probably not the best idea, I guess?)

I'm amazed by the people posting pictures of their movie theatre style tickets online with bar codes in full view. A 3 of 9 barcode is the easiest type of barcode to spoof, all you need is mircosoft word and a free font from the web.

 

Ouch.

 

Go with Will Call, at 301 Congress.....but it sounds like they will be crowded as race day nears...

 

Can this event be any more f***ked up then it already is? I cant believe it could get worse, but each time I read a new post, it is.
