Holymackrelandy! Please keep us informed as you progress on your restoration! I got my first ride in a C-3 in 1935. Yellow with simple black trim. Had a short flight in one 40 years later. Ugly little thing but quite efficient, 75-80 mph cruise on 36 hp.
    Way to go!

Thanks Bob. It is amazing how many people I come across who had their first flight or learned to fly in a C3. Mine also left the factory in lemon yellow with black trim. I will keep you informed as to how things go - I am doing it all my self (where possible) so it will be a while. Very simple structure though!

    Ahhhh, cool,

My great uncle had an original Ercoupe... he flew it all over the midwest and southwest(he lived in SoCO).

He flew down to Albuquerque for a visit; I got a short ride... he explained why there were no rudder pedals, etc.

This one has got rudder pedals, not that they do much apart from steering it on the ground. The twin rudders have little authority, not being in the prop wash.
The airframes are the same whether or not the pedals are fitted, apart from the link between aileron control and rudder wires being 'live' on the ones without pedals. It's a relatively easy job to change the config between the two and some kits are available.
Still, whatever the setup is, it's the easiest, sweetest little thing, wouldn't say boo to a goose, just needs to be flown like an aeroplane. The marketing men in the 'forties peddled it as a flying car and the wrong people got their hands on them, and crashed!

    Couldn't spin.

    Couldn't stall.

Was the marketing... and, was basically true, I heard.

Also heard that one of the reasons that they added rudder pedals on later ones was so they could be used by flight schools.

Quite right.A lot of the later ones came out with pedals for this reason. In my view they are not very good trainers as too forgiving, they lure you into a false sense of security. Fred Weick never envisaged that so many would be sold without rudder pedals though. He used to say that he just wanted to make the safest aeroplane in the world.

They won't spin because they won't deep stall. They just mush, with the nose rising slighly as soon as airspeed increases. There's very little up elevator movement and what there is is blanked by the wing at high AoA. Clever stuff!

Here's my 2001 Searey Amphibian seaplane. Slow as can be, but what fun, low and slow with water landings to boot. At 4 gallons per hours and a top speed of 85mph (on a good day), slide the canopy open and you have yourself an affordable airplane to enjoy. My body shop is close to the airport here in CT, so getting away for an hour or two is a plus.

This is the first time I saw this thread on F Chat. I'm a Meridian/430 driver. 458 Pilot, I just looked you up and saw you are a MMOPA member as well. Hopefully see you next year in Bonita Springs for the convention.

Just added this to my collection with a partner

Awesome airplane to fly no hot start/cold start procedure just turn the key like a car. To keep current in the CJ might cost $1,500.00 but the same flight in the DA42 costs about 200.00. It burns 16gph at 170 kts, but when flying locally at 135 kts we are burning about 8gph total. And it is jet fuel so it is cheaper then 100LL.

A run up is accomplished by pushing and holding a button. The computer runs up the engine, cycles the prop and ck"s the ECU's all automatically.

I love the 42! I have sat in one, but never flew in one. Back when I got started and bought the 400 there were concerns about engine support and gear boxes (?). 400 more expensive and single, but better speed, same GPH, and more load.

The original engines made by Theilert went out of business. This aircraft was sent back to the factory and refurbished with new Astro engines owned now by Diamond.
They also replaced the interior, updated the avionics and auto pilot, and replaced the canopy with a larger one.

Just found this forum. My first post, but here is my little plane. Embraer Phenom 300, s/n 081. This pic is from the delivery trip layover in St. Maarten. Took delivery March of '12.
Very solid built trouble free aircraft.
I also have half interest in both a Cessna 421 and a 1979 Beech Baron B-55 that was purchased new by my father. Both are painted in the same colors. Sorry no pics at the moment.
Oh, and I don't drive a Ferrari (yet) just a few old muscle cars ('67, '70, '71 Plymouth GTX's and a '69 vette), but I am currently shopping.
