Folks, Do any of you with F430s have heaters that heat and air conditioners that cool? Mine seems to blow luke-warm air no matter how it is set. Not a huge deal, I guess, but I'm wondering if mine is just broken and worth fixing or simply the nature of Ferrari. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Have a competent AC shop check the coolant pressures. Could be low on Freon. Now why it doesn't heat is another matter. Could be the temperature sensor. Alan
Make sure the "off" button is not depressed. Seems simple enough, but I had my car for weeks before I figured out why I couldn't get warm or cold air
Would the off button affect heat or just air? I've played with it but not noticed a difference. I will check again!
If the button is on "off" (pushed in) you will only get ambient temperature air. You must have it out for heat and ac. Seems crazy that you need to run the ac even if you want heat but that is how it goes.
It should be a button that changes when depressed to say "on" so people understand how this system works. I wonder how many people think there heat/AC doesn't work because of this button. I was one of them. The 355 has a button that says "STOP". "OFF" is only slightly better.
so funny...I just drove my 456mgta and its cold out and for as many f cars ive driven and the thousands of times ive driven them I still need to think twice about the OFF button and the position its in. so when do you push the button in? when u want what to happen? why does it even exist?
That button is very counter intuitive. I had my car for weeks before I pushed it out from the depressed position. Like magic I had heat (depending on the temperature setting) and AC (depending on the temperature setting).
I had problems with both AC and heat. After doing some googling I found this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/396034-f430-heater-issue-wont-blow-hot-air-already-fixed.html As described in the thread, the climate control unit can be finicky. I disconnected the electrical connector to the unit, which is under the dash, and now the heat works (didn't test the A/C as it's cold outside). Another way to reset the climate control unit, as well as all the other electronics, is to trip the battery disconnect switch in the trunk. If you do this, however, you'll need to know the security code for the stereo to operate it.
Well, there's not much room under there and it's not easy to get your head under the dash either. I laid my back on the door sill and my head on the foot well and worked my hand up toward the connector to remove it.
OFF in the pushed in position turns the climate control off but let's in air from the outside it seems. OFF in the out position is needed for climate control operation (either heat or A/C). I put my vents in the closed position so I don't get cold air blowing on my hands when system is off this time of year. Strangest system I have ever come across. Off really isn't off!
my 430 isn't at my house but my 456 is here. isn't this the button that achieves what u described wrt to outside air? I think the purpose of the OFF or STOP button is it allows you to leave ur vent and temp settings in the same place and in the auto position so when u want nothing u just hit OFF. if u want heat or air then u press off and u don't have to adjust ur settings? maybe? lol Image Unavailable, Please Login
That button is a recirc function that cools off the air in the cabin first when AC is on. Instead of letting outside air in, it uses the cabin air so it cools it off faster. As for the OFF/STOP controversy, I'm at a loss. I thought I understood it. Can you believe it's so complicated?? It should be simpler. LOL!
Only in the summer when your car has been sitting in the sun and it's 150 degrees in your cabin. Quickest way to cool of the interior. Then when driving around, click it off (up) to allow fresh cooled air into the cabin. Now if it works is another thing. Common issue in the 355. The little actuator that operates an internal flap to stop outside air from entering the cabin often breaks. I know this from first hand experience. Plenty of info on this on the 355 forum. I'm sure the same for the 456.
Pressing a button in activates the function wrote on the button, in this case, OFF. It turns off the system, ie blower and AC. The fact that air still flows through is down to fact the car has no way to close the vents from the outside to the inside. Some cars have it this way, some don't. The Air recirculation button has two functions, it stops bad smells from outside air being drawn in to the car. You have to activate this function when you know about the smell, modern German cars have a sensor to do this for you. Cooling and demisting the car are completed quicker if you activate this funtion. Neil
funny, in the FF or 612 or maybe both i press the recirc button to keep the air from outside coming in. lol
