Glad I'm going to austin this year; between the turbos and this mess; F1 is becoming less appealing to me.... Formula 1 teams worried about 'ugly' 2014 cars - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
While I hate the thought of adding more rules just to have rules, I'd welcome a rule that would minimize the number or eliminate the number of elements in a spoiler. If that were proposed, there would be more drastic body designs.
I agree with that. A simple spoiler with no adds-on, should be allowed ... F1s are getting uglier every year.
Now the real question is whether the Ferrari's will be short and stubby per the stereotype??? Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
If the cars are this horrid, you can bet the rules will be altered in the name of vanity just as they did with the change for 2013 with vanity panels. I bet they change the crash structure by lowering it at some point from 585mm to perhaps 400mm or something. The cars will eventually look like they did in the 80s which I have no problem with. We'll see right.
Ermm a step in the wrong direction in the looks department for sure. But I said that about the walrus nosed Williams FW26 back in the day, and it came and it went.
I've never understood all the whining over the looks of a race car... especially for something so minor. If it's fast and it wins, who the hell cares what it looks like?
Because it looks stupid? Same reason I just can't bring myself to follow indycar, the cars look ridiculous. If looks don't matter, why do we have vanity panels? Part of the draw is the look and sound of the cars going around the track. I'm with Ferraripilot, they will find a way to make them look more acceptable.
If it wins, it looks good. I've been reading online forums for F1 content for over ten years, each year you always have people moaning about how ugly it is now, and how five years ago the cars looked awesome. Funny thing, the complained of cars at the time, are looked back at fondly as being great looking... *sigh*
Agree in that looks are not important in a race car, but rules that force teams to make things against nature just to circumvent those rules should be avoided.
The 2014 F1 cars supposedly have huge radiators that resemble Indy cars according to a photographer that got to see them. Formula 1 Photographs - Blog - F1 Photos - Darren Heath Photographer
I won a competition to watch the Indian Grand Prix at the Force India factory. We also had a tour of the factory. We saw someone working on the 2014 nose cone and it did droop like the pictures. They were not happy with the way it looked, but as far as they were concerned it was the best design that adhered to the new rules.
