Now that I have quite a stash of Dino's to restore for myself I am going to sell 07836 so that I can broaden my collection a bit with a Carrera GT. I need help determining a value for this car. It's a 74 GTS USA model that had 26,000 miles on it when I got it to restore. It's original color was red which I have changed. This car has been completely redone, every nut, bolt, screw, EVERYTHING. I have recently put the original airbox and cleaner on, I replaced the Tubi with an original Ansa, I changed my yellow headlights to clear, I replaced the windshield due to some distortion in the bottom of the old one, I changed my striped daytona seats to solid tan Daytona's and a few other things. Here is the deal on the value with changes I made.
    1. Euro lights
    2. AC delete
    3. Flares (done like factory but not original)
    4. Coilover shocks (easily changd to Konis
    5. Aluminum radiator.
The car has original Campagnolo wheels
    All books, tools and jack.

2800 Miles since complete restoration. The flares would be an issue for a purist. If not a purist you get the look for $100,000 less than an original.

Please give me your input on selling price as I hope to have it on the classified ads by early next week.

This car is going to be seriously for sale!

Cannot begin guessing what the value might be, but I can certainly vouch that it is a great car. It drives great, and looks even better. Good luck Jon!

I have seen this car several times in the flesh...it is the prettiest dino I have ever seen. attention to detail is second to none.

this car should command big money despite the flares not being original.

I think the quality of the work will be the outstanding factor driving any sale and be the selling price starts with a "4" at the Monterey auctions.

    Jon,

A stunning Dino!! Love the color combo and details! Carrera GT's are awesome machines. One of, if not the most intensive cars I've ever driven. More extreme than most race cars. Never, unless you're Walter Rohrl, take it off traction control!! Also, buy the later version with the front suspension lift option unless you love the sound of carbon fiber scraping and putting boards down to get out of a driveway!!! I think the later versions have an improved clutch. They are amazing though! I have a friend that's a grandma that uses one as a daily driver!

Funny - I assumed Jon was talking about a 1958 356 Carrera GT...

So which kind is it, Jon?

My thinking is around $385. Yes it has a few mods, but i sold a 246GT with a few mods for considerably more recently. Not everyone cares about 100% correct, this car is not for those who do. A lot of things look better than how it came such as euro lights and many have made these mods. This car is meant to be driven and enjoyed by someone who appreciates beauty and quality.

The car is absolutly beautiful. My guess is most people who are buying them are not driving them, so as it is not original may be an issue - as you well know speculators/collectors don't want fugazied(stories and explanations) cars, no matter how pristine they are. So if saving 100K maybe. Someone will get a beautiful car regardless.

Personally, I never liked the flares on the cars, as it always looked akward coming straight out from the fender wells as opposed to the small curved flared lip. But to each his own. How much to bring the flares back to original?

whoever buys the car will get a lot of car for their money and history too. Every nook and cranny has been detailed with precision so no hidden dangers there either

Minor details can be corrected but I think the flared wheel arch extensions may devalue the car monetary wise but will not diminish the wow factor.

Can I ask how much a typical restoration costs?

This will assist in pricing the vehicle.

It's not an investor car, it's a driver. It's been modded, and getting it back ot original would be VERY expensive.

That being said, it's a fantastic driver, beautiful work, and really a lovely car.

I'd deduct about $75K for the mods, and then add back about 3/4 of that for the quality of the work.

I think it's market correct pricing. what's a 246GTS go for restored these days? $400K? So I think you're about right at $375K Jon, but you might get a little more at the right auction.

I'd run it past a couple brokers, see what they say. Try Wayne Carini at F40 and Mike Sheehan, that should give you a good spread of values.

'Typical' is far to broad a term but if you look at this car in particular with the jobs that it received than it is fair to say $200-$300K (plus the car of course) if you gave it to a pro shop to do.

BTW this is not internet trolling pricing either. I have seen Jon's car up close and on the lift for several hours of observation. I am also in the middle of a Dino resto and have polled this information with top shops so I'm coming from a very informed position.

For someone who does not want to get their hands dirty and intends to drive their car and enjoy it then you cannot replicate this car for sub $400K. Less than that and you are taking short cuts compared to this Dino.

A good person to get a perspective on value would be Bruce Canepa. He deals in a broad spectrum of high end road and competition cars, many of which have been tastefully improved including his version of the 959. Canepa

    Jon -

my humble opinion - this asking price for this car should start with a "5" if not a "6" hands down.

That's exactly my point. A good resto to that level is $200+ and you can't find a car with those miles that needs restoring for under $200k.

So although it has some mods the car has to be worth $400k.

    That's just silly.

You can replicate the car EXACTLY, for less than that.

You can buy a basket case, restore it to original for less than that.

There's no value added in this car that would make it demand $600K.

Again, it's a great modified car, not a show stopping, platinum winning, FCA heart thumper.

Agreed. I'm thinking very high $300,000's.
