Personally I am an owner........although I would be willing to be the custodian of YOUR vintage Ferrari as long as I didn't have to pay a cent for it.
So what are you? Go ahead and wax poetic.

Nope.................. Justin Bieber, for example, is not even an owner in the proper sense of the word. He may have legal title to his Ferrari but he's really just using it as a fashion accessory.

I should have stipulated that I was only referring to Fchat members and their associates, sorry.

My father has owned his Ferrari for nearly 54 years, and calls himself its custodian.

He really should call himself its owner......he has earned the right.

Ownership is merely depicted on the title yet being a custodian, in my opinion, means a lot more than that. Just my take.

Custodians or janitors generally don't own a Ferrari.

I admit I am more of a custodian for many of my treasured items. I hope that after I am gone they will have retained some value or still be able to provide to others some of the joy they provided me.

Well, that would be like saying you don't own anything (except perishables which get thrown out). It's a little melodramatic to say we are just the custodians. If you bought it, it's yours, you own it, just like everything else you own. :)

I'm an owner. Can't justify a respray for the nose rock chips. I have driven in snow and rain and it has taken it's toll on my 26 year old car. I have to accept that at my income level the car will suffer some degradation. If the engine pops it's a parts car so I hope I'm not the end user but I won't cry if I am. I put the money I can spend into the mechanicals keeping the services up.

In that case I am surely and owner. Bluntly, I don't for a moment think about what will happen to my car when I die/sell/pass on my F355. I love the car for what it is but don't have any sense of the car transcending time or the car eventually outliving me or my use of it. I realize some do but I don't.

Similar idea here, but I don't want to wreck the car. I want to be embalmed and placed in the driver's seat. Once rigor fully sets in, they won't be able to pry me out of it without a chainsaw.

Place me wherever they like - buried, in the back of a car barn out in the boonies, in the local dealer's showroom, doesn't matter. I will spend eternity in that lower back wrenching, offset pedal driving position.

I just had a thought... Imagine the ad when the dealer decides he needs the floor space.

"Beautiful one owner car. Owner included."

    God bless the original owners.
Someone has to pay list (or above) or there wouldn't be any for the rest of us.

An owner cares for and loves his car. A custodian maintains his car, not to the best of his ability but to the extent necessary. Which you are really depends on how you treat the car under your watch. If you cut corners, you're a custodian. I've always acted like an owner, even though a couple of them were only in my care for a year. What's great is having a mechanic who loves the car as much as I do. Actually makes the expensive maintenance fun.

I see it the other way round. A custodian is interested in preservation an owner practicality.

I see a custodian like a leasing company, and owner like a parent. That's how I feel about it anyway.
