lol, at least look at my signature before you speak.

A 348 is available for pocketchange, a 355 might actually require a trip to the bank. Affording one is no issue.

I didn't know they made an S-class in a 4 cylinder in the US. I'll have to take a trip to the dealer and ask them why they put in 2 of them though.

public forum chump, take the good with the bad.

I like the f355 for what it is, but its complete lack of torque and minimal acceleration is a bit disappointing. And yes, I did come from a car with over 800 bhp and 700lb ft of torque...my 993TT is pretty glacial.

Dude I love the 993 for what it is. The Merc I could give two rats about.. But the 993.. It's truly one of the few modern cars that have increased in value. I attribute it to the German buying spree. A couple caveats.. I don't remember it having that HP from the factory.. Modded?

In which case its apples to oranges right? If stick a twin turbo on a 355 and crank up the boost.. you're going to get quite a bat. The problem is modded cars are like a super model with a hairy nose... just a turnoff. In the end, its just a Porsche. A Blackberry with a PE of 5. ;)

IMHO the ROW turbo S models esp. Flachtbau are the ones to get.

+1. .. I had a 993TT with mild mods. They have about 404 hp in stock form, i had some factory GT2 mods and bumped it to around 440 hp. It was fast but even if it had more hp, to this day i would still prefer a sorted and well equiped F355 .......

No no, I may not have been clear. My performance car before the 993 was a modified mustang cobra. built motor, cams, paxton blower, the whole nine yards. Put down a hair over 700rwhp. After that, very few cars will feel quick.

The 993tt has some basic mods including a Turbo S ecu. makes maybe 440bhp. It is in no way fast.

of course its just a porsche...just like a ferrari is just a ferrari. Brand names don't mean much to me.

There was no 993 flachbaus, and if you ask me, they are goofy looking.

thats fair, I prefer my 993 to the Ferrari. Its got 92k miles and I'm generally happy with the performance and reliability. The ferrari is better looking and better sounding, but I just got very little excitement from driving it.

All this debate on the 355's performance is irrelevant.

That car is a piece of art. It's the last of its kind (no way the 360 will have the same legacy).

The fact that you can also drive it to get around while listening the best sound a car has ever made is a bonus!

Please. If you mean the last Ferrari that you have to take the engine out to replace belts.. The last of questionable fiat build quality.. The last "wedge" with little relevance to aerodynamics..
Yes the last of its kind.

Just don't forget the first aluminum body, first modern body style, first reliable ferrari... Yeah ain't no legacy there.

I'm pretty sure the 360 isn't as well loved as the 355, especially by mechanics! Enjoy your aluminum and "reliable" yet boring jelly-bean Ferrari. I hammered hard on a nice rental 360 for 800 miles just to see if I needed a Ferrari before I bought my F355. It wasn't nearly as fun as the good ol' aerodynamically challenged, unreliable, wedge-looking piece of crap car that the 355 is (sarcasm implied, just in case).

A 355 at 150 mph is a life changing experience, in the 360 it feels like you're doing 100. At least that's how I remember it!

Just messin' with ya... :) The 360 is a great car but I know I'll never buy one. The 458 finally saved Ferrari for me in the looks department, and that will most likely be my next.

I'll grant you the belts and the less than perfect build quality, but little relevance to aerodynamics? Come off it, the 355s aerodynamics were revolutionary.

The fact is although the 360 has noticeably more torque, the outright performance numbers are very, very close. The 355-360 performance increase is by far the smallest of all the modern V8s (348-355-360-430-458).
In fact I recently read a piece where an F355 was tested side by side with an F360, and although the 360 accelerated fractionally quicker, the 355 actually recorded a 3mph HIGHER top speed, despite having less power.
You're not going to do that with rubbish aerodynamics.

Finally, the market is speaking. In every market except perhaps the US, 355s are commanding higher prices than 360s.
    There's your legacy.

Only 10 years after Honda did it with the NSX, not exactly cutting edge, please remind us what the price difference for a 355 and a 360 is in Europe (particularly the UK), hint they are the same. All of us get sticky parts just like the Enzo owner and our headers and cats fail, must be Ferrari's signature on the mid-engine V8 cars since the 348. Both are great cars, no need to put either one down.

I believe the TR panels are aluminum but not the roof? and that was 6 yrs before the NSX
It's just that a 360 has an aluminum frame. It will be nice to see how that holds up in 25yrs

At least quadcammer has a good taste in cars, a 993 is for Porsche what the 355 is for Ferrari, the last of their lineage before the paradigm shift of the 996 and 360 came around.

What I dont understand is why you would want to come onto a Ferrari website and bash owners of Ferraris about their cars. I'd like to think that none of us has gone onto Pelican parts and had the bad manners to let loose on Porsche O' files!

I am lucky enough to own both a Porsche Turbo and a 355 and I can tell you honestly that nothing comes close to the 355 at full wail pulling through 7000 and into the 8000rpms...nothing

Oh guys.. I'm just giving back a little love. :) All of us have our opinions...

Actually with Aluminum my 928 had doors, fenders and hood.. In 1978!. It still is heavy though... and we all know Carbon fiber is the way its going. Incidentally, the panels really do hold up well over time compared to steel, but with heavy salt you do see some corrosion in exposed areas. Less than steel, but still present.

Ahhh, this whole thread is kinda amusing in the above way...

I'm a poor guy, so I will likely never own a 360, 430, 458 or 993TT... but I do own a 355. I could have serious found a way to afford all but the 458, more than likely, but why? Sure the 355 isn't barnstorming fast, hell my Miata was faster than my 355.

I didn't buy the 355 for performance, that would be ridiculous. It's simply not that fast, although it is reasonably quick. I purchased it for the driving experience, which generally is an amazing experience as others have noted. Pissing and moaning about how underpowered it is, or how it's not able to pull 1+ G on the skidpad... whatever. I could make it faster or sharper handling if I want.

What the 355 has in spades is the aesthetics, the experience that my 6 speed F355 spider offers is amazing. It's pure fun. It doesn't need to be the fastest car on the road to be one of the most enjoyable. It doesn't surprise me that someone looking for performance is disappointed in a 19-15 year old car.

Unless you have big turbo, or an LS or Monster Miata conversion, your 355 is running one only one bank.....

+F355!!! The only 355 that a miata can beat, is a bone stock one, with a bypass that is stuck closed, all 4 cats clogged, one bank shut down and the other bank running on one cylinder and the gear selected is reverse! .......

The NSX was the first production car to feature an all-aluminium monocoque body, not just parts. The technology to produce a similar system did take Ferrari nearly 10 years catch up. I never had any issues with corrosion with my NSX during 7 years I had it.
