Mel have you described to people that your car has had TWO failed diffs in a short life?

    right !

I wondered alreday when I have seen all the pictures mel put in here that the speed pick up at the gearbox shaft has 2 different adapters? can not remember now where I have seen, but when scott had the GB problem mel once sent a link to those pictures from him.

Correct Phil, I bought car at 56.000 kms'... diff exploded at 76.000

When opened, in the gb was a Testarossa wleded oem F diff, not a proper 512TR diff, so I had to put in the second one...

For that reason I did NOT want an oem F diff and decided to go for a Forza diff.

In my car now is indeed the THIRD diff ...

I have to agree with you i think they all will break!!! It's just a matter of time.
All you have to do is look at the welds. I bought my car with about 20000 miles and it went at about 85000 miles i never did a burn out's or abused my car.
When they go it can be a real mess!! I was lucky when mine went i was just starting out from a stop light and it didn't do any damage to my crown and pinion.I would hate to see it go if you were at hwy speeds.
I bought one of newmans carriers and replaced it in the car.
My advice pay now..or pay alot more later.

With Testarossa prices dropping daily, it shouldn't be long before the next diff breakage the entire car hits eBay for sale.

How many have come up for sale with broken diffs , anyone know ?

I have no problem with people agreeing or disagreeing with me. However, when people start screaming things like HORSE CRAP and then others have to puff up their chest and state how self-important they are and how much they think they know and what they say is God's word and what I say means nothing, it makes me want to leave this site.

If there's one thing I hate, it's self important people. Dave Helms is an example we all should follow. The man will pick up the phone almost always. I don't call him a lot. Maybe 5 times in 14 years. But every time, he's there and willing to chew the fat with you as long as he can. He is super talented, uber-smart, has more experience with these cars than anyone else I know and he's more than willing to share. And since I'm giving out kudo's here let me mention Romano, Steve Magnusson, Newman, Philwozza, and many more, I just can't think of them all right now. These people know their stuff, they're humble, and willing to share.

I contacted Mr. self important earlier this year when I was looking for input on my diff problem. As a matter of fact, Dave said I should call him. All I got from him was an "I'm too busy to talk to you...go away until the season is over". You can guarantee I went away and I won't be back. That's not only rude but bad for business.

Now, I don't claim to be an expert in anything. I know a lot about cars and a lot about computers. Those are the two things I've spent the majority of my life working on. I haven't turned a wrench professionally since 1990. If I had stayed in that line of work, I would never have been able to afford my TR. (Thank you IT world!) But I've worked on everything from alcohol dragsters to 18 wheelers and industrial equipment. I've seen enough stuff break from stress to recognize a bad weld. Good welds don't break. The metal around them does.

I also admit that I've posted a thread or two that may have ruffled some feathers. But I don't call people out or put them down. I just stick to the facts, or at least I try to. I'm not perfect and if I've offended anyone, I'm truly sorry. But I can name 2 other people on here, besides Mr. self important who is "regarded" as an experts, at least by some, who have posted unnecessary offensive comments. It is a requirement to have thick skin when treading the waters of the F-chat forum. I have told one of them, in a PM, that I didn't appreciate the comment and asked that he not post in my threads. He didn't respect my wishes either.

So, as you may have noticed, I haven't been on the site much lately. The more I have to read their verbal diarrhea the more I feel like I'm back in high school listening to some thick headed jock.

I love this site for the information it provides but it gets to be like having to go to the bad side of town to find what you're looking for. So, I'll probably just return to the same position I took before my whole diff failure. I read, and rarely post.

To those I call friends here, I say thank you so much for all your help and support. I couldn't have done it without you. Romano, if I ever get to Germany I'm gonna take you out to dinner. If you ever come to Maui, look me up and I'll do the same.

Yes, my car is back on the road and all is well. About $7000 in parts to fix the diff and do a major service, $21 for a safety inspection, $726 to catch up 3 years worth of licensing, $400 for new front tires, $100 for a battery. She's purring down the road and containing all of her fluids. And I'm using the dreaded 2 piece water pump seal!!

Now to fix all that other stuff. Broken drivers seat, stretched leather on the dash, windows move at a snails pace, blower only works on high, convert the A/C, on and on and on. I love this car. I'd be surprised if someone out there doesn't have one of these cars with a personalized plate that says "MONEYPIT"

There. Again, I've said my PEACE! And yes, it's "peace" not "piece" Mr. self important. Google it! :)

    Aloha!!!!

    well said scott ! ! !

and I will remember you one day if I would come to maui to this promised dinner :) :) :)
also if you would come one day to germany you are pretty welcome, if with or without dinner :) :) :) so may be we go first with my TR koenig a small drive around. then there would be more to eat for me because you may not be able to eat :) :) :) :D :D :D

but you see what you are doing ( reading and not much writing ) I do meanwhile the same. here are some very very good informed and knowledgeable people I sometimes have PM or mail contact. and those people I know because of this forum here. and I don´t want to miss those connections. but also here are some writing about everything and thinking of knowing all but only know how to type.

but this here is a free forum for all. I like it even sometimes I only wonder what some are writing and laughing then for myself.

so we go on here and have to separate what we read if it is important to remeber or not.

Thanks Romano. This was probably the wrong thread to post that comment in but at least I know Mr. important will read it. I wonder if the other two people I mentioned are too thick in the head to know I'm talking about them. Oh well.

I also received several PM's from some good people with words of encouragement, praise, and wishes that I not stop posting. So I'll put my proverbial football pads and helmet on before I post anything that will "upset" the PrimaDonna's here and I'll dodge their forked-tongue lashings.

As I said, I love this site and there are a lot more good people on here than the few spoilers.

Tomorrow is the Robert Stuhr Memorial Run here on Maui. We expect about 15-20 exotics and we will be running all over the island. From the top of Haleakala to Lahaina. Robert was the person who introduced me to the Maui Exotic Car Club. He was a detective with the Maui PD. Sadly, he took his own life a couple of years ago while going through a bad divorce. He was a very humble and quiet man and well respected. This will be my first long drive in my car. Yesterday was a great shake down. Driving it all over town getting it ready to go. I love the feel of new tires. It's like the difference between driving on a dirt road and then hitting freshly laid asphalt. I'm going to take my daughter with me. It's her 18th birthday. I'll post pics of all the pretty cars! And the conversations will surely turn to "broken diffs." :D

    Aloha!

even with a broken diff the TR can be moved and also driven.
I´m sure that I was driving with my broken diff more than 1000 km without remarking it. only because the pinion lost some teeth I remarked that something should be wrong. and when I dismanteled all I have seen the broken housing. :(

    Agreed.

I wonder how many people there might be out there who are in the same boat I was. Car's broke, can't afford to or have time to fix it, but know the value in this condition is way too much under what I'm comfortable letting it go for. Or, don't want to let it go and will save up to fix it so it sits for 3 years.

Also, I believe maybe the F-dealers who say "I've been here a gajillion years and I've never replaced a blown diff." are probably telling the truth because no one wants to pay their astronomical rates. There's no way I could have afforded to pay the F-pimp to do this job. Mel, you had a shop build your gearbox and I know it wasn't an F shop. Romano has replaced several, I've done my own, and I talked to another owner from this site when mine first broke who told me he did his in the car in 1 day and I should just go for it. Newman and Phil have both sold a bunch and I'm sure they're not all just sitting on shelves waiting for a failure to occur. There is a market out there for these.

This site only represents a small fraction of the real world experiences. So to claim that because "you've never seen it so it doesn't exist" or "this is all hysteria", is simply being closed minded.

No it was me you talked to.It took me 2.5 days with all the cleaning .but i did take my time it's not that hard to replace in the car as long as your crown and pinion are o/k.

Ah yes. Sorry about that Michael. It was a long time ago. Now I remember. You were one of those really lucky people who had it happen while barely moving and trailer-ed it immediately after.

Now that I know exactly what I'm dealing with, I think I could do it in the car if I had to.

Minimum is about $3-4K (Parts only) to do it now.

Minimum to do it later is at least $1K more and possibly $6-7K more or even higher depending on what all breaks. Again, this is all parts only...but it's EASY to do yourself! :D

When will people understand they are not american muscle cars. As soon as I take my Ferrari out there is always someone to ask for a burnout. This is not a car with a heavy engine in the front and nothing in the back. These have engine sitting directly on the tires and they were meant to be Grand tourer not light to light fighters.

Just my opinion but, only a fool would do that to any car. I mean....what is the purpose???Spend money on tires? get yourself dizzy? Maybe I'm old school, but drifting to me is just plain stupid.
