Read it once on some forum (from the Seville test drive) and it was mentioned in this video:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSk5SPjPG_8]918 Spyder at Monteblanco Circuit - Seville - YouTube[/ame]

I love the 918 and I'm a big Porsche fan, but McLaren's reasoning for not employing this system was clear from the outset and it certainly has its compromises.

incomplete ( and incidentally restricted ) cars mark .
There are only a couple of final spec cars out there and none of us have driven them yet .
Early new year just before deliveries for full power and finished article drives .
FYI the tc and the braking was very different in the 2 cars I have driven ( Leipzig and Seville) , it was explained to me when I pointed that out .

I'm aware of that Doom, but the prototypes that the customers drove at Seville were more finished and thought that they would have fixed the brakes by then. :)

I'm not sure what relevance that has to the thread or his posts. It's no great secret that he's a design student, so rather likely he doesn't have a garage full of supercars. That said, I don't know another individual besides Mark who has put as much time into understanding these three hypercars, and helping educate others, than he has.

Actually they weren't more finished the day we were there . ( I can't comment on the white car we didn't drive it ) . For example the tc was MORE Intrusive on this car than at Leipzig .
If I'm not mistaken they were the same cars as Leipzig , things are being modified/tried on them . 200 people were going to drive them btw ! I preferred the Leipzig car and the brakes were not strange at all you only need to drive the new panamera hybrid or almost any hybrid car to see this can be done . As you know I've always said this is a strange choice from mclaren and I don't buy the excuse they give about the feel .

Porsche quotes the 918 at 1634kg DIN (90% of fuel tank capacity) i.e. 3602 lbs.
McLaren quotes the P1 at 1395kg "dry" i.e. 3075 lbs, which is unverifiable and means nothing to me.
Ferrari has not communicated any weight figures as far as I know.

The front electric motor has been optimised to work for longer( at a higher speed) and rev higher too . The systems are being optimised to work better together and they estimate a ring time at least 10 seconds faster ( taking into account the active aero and the systems working more cohesively combined with the data from the last record ) . The ring is not too dangerous for Porsche apparently . They say the figures are "very conservative " and will be "completely repeatable" in customer cars .

Please read this excerpt from a frank Stephenson interview . They seem to have modified the faster on all circuits thing ?im
Very interested in opinions on this .

Driving.co.uk: How quick is it then? We know you’ve set a Nürburgring lap time but you’re not telling anyone. Porsche has set a 6m 57s time with your rival hybrid supercar, the 918 Spyder. And how does it compare with your other great rival, the Ferrari LaFerrari?

FS: With the P1 the challenge was to be able to take it to any track around the world, set a time and leave it up to the other guys to try and beat our time. We’re happy to challenge all-comers everywhere, except the Nürburgring.

    Driving.co.uk: Why?

FS: A couple of reasons. The Nürburgring is not safe. It’s safer for race cars but road cars there in road car conditions where you’re not running slicks and roll bars, and they're running with a lot more weight than they should be running… you know you can stiffen the springs but then if you bottom out you can skate across the track at 200mph and wrap yourself around a tree. So it doesn't make sense. That’s our policy, anyway. We know what we’ve done at the Nürburgring, and everyone is waiting for a time for the P1. I personally know it…

Talk is cheap and how does that sit with "except the ring"? That's even worse arguably , it's almost schizophrenic !
Is that even from the same interview ? I was merely pm'd the quote on another forum .

918 will do well at the ring as I believe it was developed there; would love to see lap times from other circuits such as monza, all three with same driver, conditions, etc.

It still has a lot of time in the bag, should drop in the 6:4x region and everyone thinks the P1 did 7:04. :p Even the Nismo GT-R did a 7:08.

The ring is a monster , it has dips , rises , length , varying weather , irregular cambers in short it's like a fast long road . The 918 is primarily a road car , that's why I think it does so well there .
The 4 wheel drive , 4 wheel steer , torque vectoring , low cog , immediate torque , ride height even the weight ( possibly ) actually help it .
I fully expect these cars to be faster on the tracks that best suit their characteristics . It is just very badly handled by mclaren .
To not give a time and then claim to be faster than all comers is either very naive , supremely arrogant or just plain stupid .

Bridge to gantry timed the lap at 704 , that is the only time given for the p1 except the " we achieved our objectives " thing .

No, it's just a rumour from 'Bridge to Gantry' that has been circulating for a few months on the internet and the sad part is that some people believed it or they want to believe it.

I was told that it went way faster than that. I'm sure that McLaren will release a video sooner or later, but don't expect them to release a lap time nor a full on-board lap.

When 918 is released to the customers, by the look of things if they continue to improve it like they've been doing, it will only be slightly slower than a P1 in a straight line speed. With the 4WS, 4WD and a lot more battery capacity, I fully expect to be very competitive with regards to both P1 and Laferrari on any track, not just on the Ring.

Furthermore, I suspect the the 918 will be the fastest in real-world average roads in the hands of most drivers.

B2G timed it back in August and that was when McLaren were taking some media members for passenger rides. If true, 7:04 is an incredible time.
