Leno's a car guy, and I would also say that Lauren is a car guy; Lauren, though, views the cars as pieces of art (which they are) that represent aspects of his life and lifestyle. Unlike Leno, he also shows his collection publicly, places them in Concorso's, and is someone whose love for cars gets people who might never pay attention to an exotic or rare car to go see them. No doubt, he'll also add the LaFerrari he's getting to that complement of cars for the public to view. If you've never gone online to see his auto collection, it is one of the finest anywhere IMHO. Lauren's "Ladies in Red" are stunning (the cars, not the models) and all anyone who didn't know cars would have to see to understand the passion he has, and most of us have, for Ferrari.

I was fortunate to be in the audience at a small private event where Jay did a set. Completely clean, no vulgar language, and I still almost fell off my chair several times. Only Robin Williams and Denis Leary have also given me that out-of-breath sustained laughter I got while Jay was performing. A truly funny guy (not like that show host he plays, where things are approved by the network), very approachable, and one of the best comics I've ever seen.

It would be interesting to know his thoughts about the lack of Ferraris in his collection, but he is also an ambassador for cool cars in general, so if he never chooses to tell us, I'm OK with that.

Lauren is a rich guy who likes beautiful objects. Leno has loved cars before he earned his money.

Well, I would say Jay Leno does show/share his cars publicly in a way. :)

    All the best,

I'll be contributing to that thread for sure.

If Leno is no obligated to like Ferraris, I'm certainly not obligated to like Leno.

No intent to cause disagreement, and certainly Jay Leno opens his garage to folks and to video cameras. Merely because Ralph Lauren is rich doesn't mean he isn't a car guy who, in another lifetime, would probably be on this board discussing his love for great cars.

Why he owns cars is probably one of the greatest misperceptions about him- he started selling ties to classmates while in High School, and bought cars he loved to use as daily drivers while working for Brooks Brothers in New York. His first purchase was a Morgan, then a MBZ 280SE drop top, then two consecutive Porsche 930's, and then into Ferraris.

Of course, as he turned his original $50,000 loan into the empire it is today, he was able to buy cars with a little higher pedigree. He has been quoted as saying that the cars he loves have been an inspiration to his designs. He also drives many of them to the events where they will be shown.

This link has a story with interviews about his collection and his love for cars. It's worth reading, if only to get a glimpse into a pretty private person who can afford to actually own and drive the cars we admire. His work (and Leno's) to preserve the cars is also noteworthy. Without them, future generations wouldn't be able to appreciate what they were, and are.

Part of the secret to a stress free life is to simplify it as much as you can, because life gets complicated enough all on it's own!

Jay Leno has worked out that by wearing a denim shirt and jeans every day, he has removed the stress of working out what to wear each day!

It's also ordinary clothing that displays no elitism to others (as you get with Ralph Lauren shirts or Armani trousers and such like), and added to that, it's very durable and so good value for money!

Next time you're looking in your wardrobe thinking about what you're going to wear today, just think - Jay Leno doesn't have that problem because he already knows what he'll be wearing!

Look I think we all know Leno is really into cars, and that he also seriously drives his cars. So the fact that he is not into ferraris, or better put the fact that someone who is generaly regarded as having great taste in cars is not into ferraris indicates that there might be a reason.

Essentilay Leno has stated that he is not into all the ferrari Bs. I would take that to mean the dealer crap, of which there are many threads here from owners and which he himself has sted.. I would go futher and say most serious car people/drivers I know are not into the poseur ferrari owners who have no clue about cars and cant drive for sh+t but think and act really hot because they ca afford one.

Many people see ferrari today in a negative light, its not really cool, unless you think a gold rolex is tateful, and the whole fakey do, manufactured idol worship ferrari mistique is a turn off to anyone who judges cars objectively. In fact I woudl go so far as to say that tellling someone you own a ferrari is negative stigma. So if you are really into cars you own a ferrari in spite of all the social crap because the products are sometimes brilliant. I guess Leno figures there are plenty of other good choices so why bother.

Yeah he is making a social statement by not having ferraris, and although I am an owner and love a number of Ferraris I agree with him.

So instead of buying anothe red tan ferrari with sheilds to cruise in the slow lane, get a more stealth color and go out and really drive, that will lift the ferrari mystique among those who really drive.

My wife and I are on our second Toyota. Toyota builds a quality product but Toyota pissed me off and I will never buy another. Period. End of story!!!

I suspect something like this went down with Jay and Ferrari. Sure he could buy a classic Ferrari, which we know from various videos that he respects, but because of his notoriety he would be advertising for the brand if he owned one. We may never know why he shuns Ferrari. He isn't the type to air his dirty laundry. I respect him for that.

Seems like there is a Ferrari in Jay's garage in the Magnus Walker show he did.

    Right at 1:20, 8:40 you'll see her....

The title of this thread is misleading. Jay Leno likes Ferraris just fine. He doesn't like the attitude of Ferrari dealers.

I agree with what you are saying but the last part. I think red and tan is perceived to be a mystique when it's not. It just happens to be one of the best looking combo for those cars. I want a Ferrari to drive it but I sure as hell wouldn't get a black on black one to prove something silly.

Though now that they are offering many different choices of interior colors along with mixing colors, the interiors are starting to look more unique. I for one like the grey suede interiors or the tan/black contrast with leather and suede mixed in. When you buy a 250k car u want more than speed otherwise u don't have to spend 250k. Black on black really defeats the purpose of these kind of car. But on the other hand u don't want to go to crazy like the mansory f12. Find the happy medium

To be honest I found his column in one of the latest Octane Magazines about driving the P1 quite nauseating, everything was some small dig at Ferrari and Ferrari owners.

    Disappointing

This just came to me today, for no particular reason - I was wondering if Leno not owning a Ferrari had nothing to do with Ferrari, but more to do with Letterman? Leno's late night rival has been a car nut for nearly as long as Leno - not nearly to the same extent, but still a car nut... who has a pretty good Ferrari collection going.

Perhaps Letterman bought a few Ferraris before Leno really got his collection going, and Leno decided to avoid having one of the cars favoured by his rival?

Jay's top dog at his Big Dog Garage is Bernard. Bernard drives a red/black 308 GTS and keeps it parked in Jay's garage. Jay's Malibu garage has a 6' x 6' picture of an F40 above his desk. Jay has a video of a Ferrari book review- which he liked. Jay is a McLaren guy- not a Ferrari guy. Jay is among Hollywood non-car people who drive Ferraris more for status than love of the marque. Jay said it is a car- with problems like other cars. Jay said he worked for car (ie. Mercedes) and motorcycle dealerships, and the "uniform" he grew up and respected was a denim shirt, pants, and black shoes.

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

In Jay's column in the new Octane January 2014 edition, he is writing about Morgan, but at the bottom of the first column he states "I like early Italian cars, Alfa Romeos and early Ferraris, because they have such character and they make all the right noises and are uniquely Italian."

So there! Jay Leno DOES like Ferraris! :D
