They sound amazing. Really liked the sound of the #15 Blue March/Elf car. The historic races a few weeks ago were even better! I need to save up for Goodwood! Im more of a fan of seeing the oldstuff in some ways then the new rides...
Agreed. Here are some photos of some of the vintage F1 cars which showed up in 2012 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

THEY CALLED IT VINTAGE FORMULA. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT! MOSTLY FORMULA B, ATLANTICS, AND EVEN A COUPLE OF FORMULA FORDS. LAST YEAR THERE WERE A BUNCH OF VINTAGE F1, AND SOME SIGNIFICANT CARS. I WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE GUYS THAT MAINTAINS A COUPLE OF THE OLD SHADOWS, THAT THEY WANTED A $3,000.00 ENTRY FEE THIS YEAR.
some of my Austin F-1 experience - Have to say it was faboulous! I have a lot more pictures - will post some later when I have time. All I have to say is Thanks to Coke and Lotus! So in order to get 50k in revenue COTA was willing to drop Historic F1 cars at an event for F1 fans? An event that costs them 25 millions. Could they have their priorities any more backwards????
No; historic f1 raced there 3 weeks ago; couldn't make the date work. These weren't promoted as historic f1; just vintage races....
In that case somebody is really missing the boat: why on earth would they schedule it that way if they have a chance to race in front of 100k F1 fans and press?
Kevin, I went to the vintage races last month at COTA and while they had some F1 cars, I did not see any Ferrari F1 cars. Here is a listing of the vintage race results which identify the F1 cars which are placed in Group 9: http://www.svra.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Group-9-Feature-Race.pdf . The older F1 cars which are in Group 2 also did not include any Ferraris: http://www.svra.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Group-2-Feature-Race.pdf I liked the vintage races at COTA, but missed the historic cars that were at the 2012 F1 event in Austin. I dug up an article on the 2012 historic GP in Austin in 2012 ( http://www.historicgrandprix.com/articles/VintageMotorRacingNews.htm ) which noted that the cars which attended in 2012 included a Chris Amon Ferrari 312-69, a Jacky Ickx Ferrari 312-B2, a Clay Regazzoni Ferrari 312-B4, Jackie Oliver's Shadow DN-1, James Hunt's McLaren M-23, Niki Lauda's Ferrari 312 T2, Jody Scheckter's Tyrrell P-34 6-wheeler, a pair of Mario Andretti's iconic "Black Beauty" Lotus 79s, as well as Mario Andretti's VPJ/4 and Lotus 77, Alan Jones' Williams FW-07B, Keke's Williams FW-08 and Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari 312 T5 I was hoping that since they didn't come to the 2013 vintage races at COTA, they were going to go the the 2013 F1 historics attached to the 2013F1 race. Alas, they didn't come to either race.
The map brochure we handed out, had them in the Daily Schedule, I did not notice the omission in the $20 Official Program....
Not sure why, but the historic f1 series was purchased by another group in August; I know one of the drivers, he just said they couldn't get it scheduled. Would have been nice....
If anyone was at Will Buxton's Bash at The Speakeasy Thursday night, that was me squealing with delight after I won Massa's Team shirt =) Image Unavailable, Please Login

I noticed that the F1 on display all had fake or simply wrong steering wheels. So there was no point in stealing one
We were guest's of Coke - who own Burn energy drink - so that was our connection. The Lotus folks were SUPER - they were always asking is there anything they can do... took us down in the pits & paddock 4-5 times a day - we were actually in the garage when Grosjean moved into Q3... and then right down at the end of the race - I was on the paddock side when the flag fell ... and caught the Redbull folks with purple Cowboy hats ... have one of those for a momento... got both Vettle and Webber to sign it shortly after.... Then they brought the 2nd place trophy up - so the pic above is me with the trophy! how cool is that! The steering wheel is not the actual kind that is used -this one is from last years car... I was amazed at the number of paddles and controls... in short if you dont follow F-1, me weekend is hard to explain - if you are a F-1 fan, it was F-1 Heaven! Fleur and Gian Carlo were super hosts at Lotus... and I have to admit that Grosjean is actually a nice guy- he was not standoffish at all...
