It's not the better solution, I do like this the first time I done it on the Urraco P300, I also change the clutch with engine and gearbox in the car, but now the better way is with a lift, very easy to remove and to refit.

There is about 1/16 of an inch (if your lucky) between the right half of the cam / chain area and the bulkhead / strut tower - Also the bulkhead sheet metal of that area can seem thin. If the engine mounts get weak, it wouldn't be uncommon to see indentations in the bulkhead from the screwheads. As the compartment was originally designed for the Urraco, in that iteration, there is a bit more clearance (maybe 1/3 in) as the sheetmetal belt guards are closer in to the engine.

After working on these for a bit, it overall seems consistent with their way of thinking - maximum use of available space, practicality be darned! < and yes, I'm putting forth a attempt of a positive!

I remember that cover plate bothering me aesthetically when having the engine out and thinking about finding a better looking cast plate instead of the thin steel plate. Good thing that I was occupied with other stuff, so I never got to it, since the thinner steel plate has the purpose of creating the few millimeter clearance to the spring tower.

Did you lift the front in order not to damage the front spoiler?

Yes, the front was on jack stands too. the angle of the rear of the car when jacked up to slide the motor in was almost uncomfortable.

I had the same reaction when I saw the smooth metal plate, and only when i looked in the parts manual did i realize it was intentional (somewhat...)

Isn't that the one from Strassbourg which burnt?
Correction the one from Strassbourg is HLA12350.

What happened to GLA12342, since I have pictures when turbo car trade tried to sell it in 2006.

Four Jalpa's must be world record...
DLA12073, GLA12342, GLA12343 and HLA12372, but is anyone running yet?

    Hi Raymond,

HLA 12350 was owned by a friend in Lyon and is now in Italt for sale. I expect to put HLA12372 on the road this year. Four Jalpa and all white....

Also the door mirrors have to be black, I like the comment " The Targa roof is easily removable..." For sure they didn't tried it.

These are some of the best Jalpa accelerations I have seen.
