I guess we are somewhere between 200-300 man hours in now, not only with the prep work but also sub contract panel repairs e.g the roof.
Those pics doesn't do that color justice. You need to see it IMO. Acapulco Blue is a very nice color. I believe they used it on the Jalpa as well, if I remember correctly.
yes, nice color! tks Joe for the 5000S pic very nice color combo on that 5000S i had seen QVs in that shade but that is first 5000s for me it needs to be seen in person...same as diablo's scuro blue
Emilio, Simon and other Acapulco lovers, check out this one! http://www.alexandre-besancon.com/#!Lamborghini Countach 5000S/c1b2f
Hmm, i think i might be wrong? The car in the link must be Blue Scuro? And this one is Acapulco Blue? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The last shot before final colour...... At last all the body elements are prepped and a final check has been made on gap and flush. Looking forward now to the car being finished. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's Tahiti, like this one http://www.lambocars.com/images/countach/all/lp500s44.html This is aqcapulco http://www.lambocars.com/images/countach/all/lp500s62.html http://www.lambocars.com/images/countach/all/lp500s61.html
I would never have guessed that the car in the pic i posted is Tahiti. I have some pictures of Erics Blue Tahiti LP500, the pictures were taken when it was a Little bit dark in the rain at Piazza Maggiore on Friday, yes the Tahiti color really can be darkish, but not so dark like in the pic above. But its not easy to name the colors when shown in different light conditions, and one must also considering the age of the picture etc.
Hopefully late this week, early next, Al has decided to add another guide coat and wet sand prior to final colour. I think that is 3 rounds of prime and flat back. I have another little project on see michelotto build in 308 section!
Countach is one of the most demanding body shapes I've worked on. So many panel gaps and corners that intersect, and some really complicated transitions from flat to curves. He's probably going mad chasing the details Can't wait to see it in final paint.
Me too, the panel gaps are now even and the panels correctly surfaced. It is the first Countach Al has done so I guess making sure it is right.
Same problem with my LM002... takes that long to make sure the gaps are perfect. I'm not as patient as You though
Are the panels actually shifted around relative to each other in order to get the gaps right? How do the panels attach to the frame? I've never done body work on a car before but I assumed the outer sheet metal panels were welded to the frame.
The panels are are affixed using a combination of copper rivets around the main frame outriggers and then for the doors they are just hemmed. There has been adjustment of the panels relative to the frame, some panel re-shaping, and in the case of the lamp pods complete re-fabrication of the under frames. Hinges have generally just had very fine adjustments moving them around with allowable tolerances in the bolt positions. All in all quite involed
The Countach is build closer to the way an Aircraft is built.. Any mass produced car is welded together like you think, but some are not. Most exotics especially what I have seen in Lamborghinis they are like Aircraft.
Wednesday next week is when final paint goes on, although Al will be apiting all the reveals, inners of the panels on Tuesday......Hope the colour choice is the right one!
