I'm planning on bringing my 11 year old son to this event. I've never been.

There is a published list of events -
    https://www.ameliaconcours.org/event-schedule2.aspx

but it appears if you are just a spectator, maybe just be there saturday and sunday?
Sat has this: duPont Registry Cars and Coffee at the Concours presented by Heacock Classic Car Insurance
The Golf Club of Amelia Island - 10th and 18th Fairways – Free Admission

but it appears the concours itself is on sunday, same fairways.

Can someone give me some advice on which events are the "must do" events?
any other events outside of the official concours?
(Pebble has multiple events over multiple days - is this event similar?)

    thanks!

    Mike,

Simply put, Amelia Island is a great event! A few of us make the drive down each year on that Friday and arrive on the island late afternoon. Hence, we don't do any of that day's events.

This will be the first time I'll be attending the Cars & Coffee as I had to miss last year but am looking forward to adding it to our Saturday. Usually we make our way over to the Ritz in the morning. Sometimes we attend the seminar and sometimes not, depending on the subject/panel.

With a few makers offering "test drives", we do at least one. In recent years there have been examples from Jaguar, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz going out on a short course.

The auction will be going on so it's a good time to walk over and see those about to roll in or those just coming off the block.

Inside the hotel there are numerous vendors of all types - books, art, models, memorabilia, and much more.

In front of the hotel, various high-end dealerships from all over the state will be showing examples (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, McLaren, etc.)

On any of the given days, you might very well run into a racing legend, broadcaster, or tv personality. The atmosphere is very laid back so it's usually very easy to get an autograph and/or picture.

You and your son will have a great time and there will be more than enough to keep you entertained (or for as long as an 11 year old can hold out).

Enjoy and we might see you down there!

    Kevin -
    thanks for your input!
So, this is single setting with a few events to go to?
I've been to Pebble 3 times... multiple things to do on multiple days!

I can't help you with specific recommendations, but it is an awesome event. I went on a whim in 2012 while on a motorcycle ride, and it was the best car show I've been to. Absolutely amazing collection of cars. Have fun!

Hey Mike, hope the transition to TX went well. Again thanks for the books for my research. Been asked to judge at Cavalino this year. I'm hoping to make it down there this year and it would be fun meeting up with you and the family again. The concours is on the scale of PB, but smaller and not the crowds. Usually only two auctions going on nearby RM and Gooding. Local Ferrari club held their own small show, not sure if this is an annual event. Stay in touch and hope to meet you down there or back in Monterey.

We’ve attended Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and various other concours around the country for years and all the above comments are right on. These two are by far the best all-around car events of the year. The ancillary events at Amelia (auctions, seminars, vendors, tours, test drives, etc., etc.) are always interesting and fun. Bill Warner puts on a great event, highly recommended.

Yes, pretty much everything you'll want to do is right there on the grounds of the Ritz. A couple years ago there was a side event just down the road featuring Italian makes but don't know if that has continued.

Everyone has covered pretty much all of the big tips. Another show to look into is Festivals of Speed. Their first time at Amelia was the show last March. It brought an assortment of cars, including old and new cars from all makers. It will be on Saturday all day, located at the Omni Resort, about a 10 minute drive from the Ritz. Saturday and Sunday all of the action is at the Ritz, excluding FOS. Have fun!
