I usually think posts asking for opinions on price are a little silly but i find myself conflicted. I am looking for a 360 coupe and found one I like but I feel the price is a little high and the dealer is apparently at their floor price on it. We negotiated for a few days and they told me this was a take it or leave it price. ($90k)
    2001 coupe
    9,900 mile
    Red/Beige
    F1
    360 sport exhaust
    Power Daytona seats
    Challenge grills
    Shields
Car is in great condition/clean inside and out.
New clutch with tensioners, throwout bearing and a few other little things changed last month
Major service done 1 year/700 miles ago.
Seasonal service just done with clutch change
    New tires
Well documented over the last few years but not all the way back to new.
    2 owner car
    Checking on campaigns performed

Dealer wants 90k firm. I actually think this is at least $5k too high but I have not found anything else close to this condition with all the up to date service. A lot of the coupes appear to have higher mileage than similar spiders, though I know Spiders were not released until 2003 I believe. I am about to ask for a ppi but am hesitating due to the price. I hate to pay a premium but maybe if this car checks out it is worth it. So, as much as I hate to ask, what do you think? I know in the end it is my choice but I do value the opinions and insight of others. Thanks.

FYI. I was originally searching for an F430 but financially the 360 is making a lot more sense right now. Thanks.

Price is a bit high but finding another example such as the one you described might take forever. It all boils down to if your time is worth the extra few thousand

...if so, price is not outrageous...but it is about $5K high as you suggest. If from an independent - well known - more than $5K high...just a used car lot - $10K high.

It would seem that the only negative is MY 2001. 2002-2004 are a bit different and worth a bit more.

Does it have all of the stuff (keys, fobs, covers, bags, pouches, etc. etc. etc.)??

If from a F dealer, you might get some sort of bonus thrown in?? 1 year warranty? Couple of years of free service?

In the end, really nice examples are becoming less and less easy to find. This sounjds like one of those. Every year that passes, cars get more miles, more worn, have more accidents, and gather up more stories. No one is producing new 360s or restoring old ones to perfect condition. If you want a really nice 360 and you want THAT 360, do your investigtions and don't let $5K sour the deal.

Is the TCU original? For that money, i'd like to see that it has been upgraded.

However, for a low mile clean 01 red/tan with a brand new clutch and newish belt service that seems reasonably in line with prices I saw when I was shopping this past Spring.

    Is it close to you?

The mileage is low/good and the color combo is desirable but I'd say that car is priced about $10K high at least...

In the summer (better time to sell a car, worse time to buy) I got a spider 2003 black/black loaded, but with higher miles (25K) for under $80K.

IF you had 6-spd manual on that car I'd say it's about $5K high.

Agree that this car is at least $10k too high. Why not buy from a fellow enthusiast who is not trying to gouge your eyes out with a crazy high price? I will guarantee that if you picked up that car for full ask, the minute you drive it off their lot, it becomes a 13 year old used Fiat worth $70 k in their eyes.....

Sounds like a nice car but a bit overpriced to me. We are going into winter maybe you can wait them out to get them down a bit. People say a few grand shouldn't kill a deal but in my mind that is only true if the car is very local to you. Shipping sounds like a hassle at best and I've read nightmares on here about shipping stories. That is why I bought my car at an F car dealer near my home. Plus, they have fun events at this dealer.

Does the car have the updated TCU? What kind of a dealer is it.

By the way spiders came out for 2001 model year in US and 2000 overseas, not 2003. 2003 spider is 3rd year of 360 spider in US.

9,900 and it needed a new clutch already ?

I passed up my dream 328GTS 2 years ago for a price difference of $1,500 and I still kick myself DAILY for it, then I get in my consolation purchase fire up the 360 and think I did ok. The few $K difference will be forgotten first good drive.

Don't let it get away if you really like it! A couple of thousand here or there is not an issue here. Like others have said if its a dealer and you will be using them for service and help going forward the extra couple thousand you pay now is nothing. If it has new tires or nearly new and you have plenty of records (probably not much) but if you can talk to the service manger or someone who worked on it before and the deal is based on an acceptable PPI you may as well get on it. If I was in your situation I might just ask if they will do 90K out the door today and throw in a shirt and two hats!

Thanks for all your opinions. They are all appreciated.
The car is at the Ferrari dealer on long island so it is pretty close to where I live, which is a big plus. I have to check on the TCU and would definitely ask for the upgrade.

Canine64-That is exactly what i am afraid of. I would like to ask them exactly how much they would give me for the car if I brought it back the next day to turn it in. This is probably the biggest issue with the deal right now.

DanNE-Thanks for the info on your car and for the link. Unfortunately I actually want F1.

Mikeyr-Why it needed a clutch at 9,900 miles i don't really know but the service record states that the owner was complaining of the clutch slipping and they changed it, at his cost.

English Rebel-saw that car on Jakes but it was yellow. Red is hard enough for me but yellow is definitely not something I can do so I passed it up. Awesome deal though.

pfsex-it is from a Ferrari dealer and yes a 2001 is not the most desirable year for me either. I think I have seen almost every coupe being advertised online and what you are saying is exactly right. They seem to have a lot more miles than spiders and seem to be at independent dealers whom I do not trust very much, with a few exceptions. I guess the thing is I don't necessarily need THIS one so maybe I should not rush it if I feel it is not the right car. It is beautiful and does have all the stuff though.

Thank you to the rest of you who replied as well. I will think it over and try to make a decision on Monday. Most likely I will not end up with this car at $90k so if anyone knows of another good example with an F1 let me know. I am a real buyer. Thanks.

You are talking about 3500 bucks difference here. This is what you have to shell out every third year (if you follow the recommendations). This is the game you are getting in. I don't see it as an issue.

I guess each of us has our pressure points but I really like to sleep at night and if I was losing sleep over a car that got away I would hate myself. how much is it going to cost to get the next car if this one goes? What's airfare and PPI's and truck transport going to run?

My guess is about 3500 bucks. Don't F around is my motto. But the cool player knows that prices next year will be a little lower too so when do you want to get in?

    Good luck OP!

    Bigsquat,

I overpaid for a 2004 F360 from a site sponsor last December and put 1000 miles on it in 9 months. Contacted them to see if they were interested in repurchasing. Sure they said---at a $19,000 dollar discount.....

Reasons given? "We have too many Ferraris in stock; the market is tough right now; even the rich are *****ing"..... Live and learn. I would never do business with them again. How do you know a car dealer is lying through their teeth? Their lips are moving.

The only dealer I trust is Doug at Switchcars. Honest, straight shooter. Good luck with your decision.

If you decide to take the car at that price because you believe he just won't go any lower, try to get more for your money.

When I bought my 360 the dealer wouldn't come down much on price, but I negotiated a bunch of stuff which didn't cost him all that much but would have cost me a lot more.

For example, offer to buy the car at 90K if he'll toss in a new car cover and/or new tires, and a fresh cam drive belt change, and the next two annual services at no cost to you, and a favorable guarantee on future electrical and mechanical problems, or whatever else you think you can negotiate especially when it comes to missing items like tool kits, inflation kits, etc. You can easily come up with five grand of additional goodies if that's how much you think the car is overpriced relative to your local market.

In other words, sometimes folks get stuck on a dollar figure, but might be a bit more flexible in other areas especially if these items are cheap for him but expensive for you. You get the idea.

    Good luck.

I was in exactly the same position as you a month and a half ago. It was a one owner local car with complete service records from new. The dealer gave me supposedly an absolute bottom price. I pulled the trigger, and have told everyone who has asked me since that I probably overpaid by 5k, but they have all told me the same thing. You can't pay too much for a good one and you can't offer low enough to get rid of a bad one.

To some degree, you have to factor in how long you plan to keep it. If only a couple of years, maybe you don't want to overpay. I'm keeping mine for a long time, so that wasn't an issue. If you don't have any regrets post-purchase, then you didn't overpay.

In your case, how strongly do you feel about this particular 360? I felt that the chances of finding a better example than mine were pretty slim. Also, someone else has since posted an '04 on this thread that you might wanna look at.

I think everyone in here has given some great view points....let me summarize what I've seen so far:

    1) Get it....if it is THE one you want, has everything you want get it....BUT! Get some goodies thrown in (this is really an excellent idea) like a fresh service, new tires (if needed) new car cover, maybe a fresh exterior/interior detail? That, I believe is a FAIR compromise....if not, I would walk.

    2) How long are you going to keep it? I am in the same boat and when considering the price, I'm thinking of maybe stretching how much I loan because I know this is it for me as far as exotics go...I plan to make one purchase and that is it....$5k isn't going to be a deal breaker for me

    3) Another good idea to ask them about driving off the lot and bringing the car back to them the next day....if they are willing to give you a price, maybe cut the difference in half and see if they'll go with that? I don't know how many places would answer truthfully, but it doesn't ever hurt to ask when dropping this kind of money. There are a lot more things I would rather spend $5k on today!

Bottom line, it is up to you, but if you don't feel comfortable, then that is your gut telling you to hold out. Winter is here/right around the corner....wait until it snows and see if they price will be different....

The winter timing is a good mention. If no one bites quick at 90 they are going to sit on it for a few months. If you know the place well and they like to turn cars over you may be right to tell them your price and for them to call you when they are ready. I think we have all seen the kind of place that prices cars so high they are sure to be around for a while. I don't know which this is.
