I doubt that P1 has as much downforce as they say at McLaren, and noone else puts this into doubt, which is weird at least.

My opinion is still unchanged. I probably should have worded it better... I'm sick of all the 'Ring debates, we're not getting anything out of it.

Too bad nobody cares what you say 'bowleggedhermit' A 'new' member that signed up to the site yesterday just to post that? Right. I merely quoted a few of Mark's previous posts. Nothing more.

We are all motor enthusiast here and Mark provides a unique perspective about things McLaren supported by a relationship he has developed with them. I think very few people, including Mark, expected the strategy or decision McLaren selected in not posting a Ring time. They obviously have their reasons which has promoted much debate, ridicule, some anger, speculation and a host of other thoughts concerning the subject. The term "don't shoot the messenger" should apply in defense of Mark. Attacks on him or any other enthusiast are fruitless to these discussions.

It beats me why the obsession with Ring time should escalate to personal attacks. As for McLaren, I don't know the reasons for the position they have taken, but I think that its effect is to effectively diffuse a mounting obsession and that this is very healthy. These cars (the big three) are multidimensional, and frankly the idea of their worthiness being established by a single number on a single track is absurd.

My estimation of McLaren management has gone up. Best of luck to them with the P1.

I agree. If you have an opinion or objection it is best conveyed in a civil tone. In my experience, I have found that an attack rarely adds to the content of a positive discussion.

Only the McLaren insiders know why they made such a decision. Unfortunately we are on the outside looking in. My personal opinion is that I believe the P1, with its low ride height, may not be an attribute that can dominate that circuit. I think we will see the true genius of their chassis engineering and aero work displayed at the flatter GP style circuits. I think they are waiting to show off there. Just my opinion.

All these cars are amazing. I haven't seen the Ferrari run around many circuits as yet, so I am really interested to see them lap with their selected aero package. As for the 918, what can you say. It is just an incredible feat in engineering. The proof is in the pudding and they really showed us that pudding at the Ring. A product we have come to expect from the Germans. We are very lucky to experience this competition.

Thank you, David. As far as I know, McLaren took their decision not to publish the lap time when they were about to release it. Most of my posts about the 'Ring were before they took their decision. Never made anything up, all the info that I share here are from sources that I trust and I never intended to upset any enthusiasts of other marques. Their previous posts were laughable and they took it a bit too far.
