    Pretty easy to take those kinda shots with just a little planning and patience. Here is one I took a couple years ago during the Little Rock Air show. It was really just a matter of watching the planes go past the moon and taking a ton of shots.

    This is from back in '06 or so when I was in Quatar. Every evening I would walk outside for about 10 minutes and see what flew in front of the sun.

    Last week I was out shooting some basic airborne training at Ft Benning and got a lot if great shots of the guys jumping in front if the sun.

    I'm guessing that for some of the landscape shots (I.e. moon through rock arch) you can even find specific date ranges online for when the sun/moon are aligned. For instance in mid October here the sunrise is aligned with a straight section of the Arkansas river so you can take shots of the sun comig up over the river but its underneath several of the downtown bridges. If I remember when I get home I will dig up a few of those pics.

    Only the unpredictable ones, wild animals, lightning, accidents are cool.

    Sun, moon and anything else you can plan your way out of are not so cool.

    Lightning is a bit tougher but even that isn't too hard if you have a subject (like the statue of Liberty) picked out. Just find a spot during every lighting storm and start the camera going. My 5D with a high speed memory card will take 4 shots a second until the memory card is full. Then you just go through and pick out the shots that have something and throw the rest away.
