He must be. Ferrari has clearly stated that the 350 Can engine currentely in Piperised 0858 with clear 350 Can Am tipo, not 330 P4, stampings was NEVER in P4 0858. Not 0858's original P4 body. (I own 0858 spyder's tail and have mounted it on 0846.) (0858's original P4 nose is hanging on a wall) Not 0858's original P4 engine. What's not to like ?
Here's the thing.... No matter how many of 0858 P4 genuine parts are in the O858 recreation, you are not seeing any more of the Genuine P4 that still exists then were in 0858 Can Am. As in, there was as much original P4 in the Can Am as there is now in the recreation P4. All you're seeing now is a Halloween costume. Unfortunately this trick is not a treat. The car that had the most going for it has been dismantled. Now there is some P4, some Can Am, and a little bit of something from another car that was never a part of either of them. Cheers.
I believe Ferrari say the engine to Can Am specification was not in a P4 in period, (then again how could it be unless you have a time machine) and not that the actual base engine itself was not in 0858 before it was re specced to a Can Am configuration. Simple answer then is re spec it again back to P4 size. Simple, job done. Smoke and mirrors as usual from the anti brigade. Jim if you had bought the car would you have re united the tail you own to it? or kept it as it was.
Nope Ferrari said that this engine/block/etc was never in P4 0858. None of it. It's original P4 engine is elsewhere. I would have left it as it was, given it a through going through, and cut back in the headlights it had in some Can Am races and Sunday driven it. She's sold on to a German owner afaik. Hope they're happy and use her in good health.
Well if thats the case then this thread can finally die a death at last! Happy seller, happy buyer no doubt.
Correction: from a genuine 350 Can Am that the marketplace said was not worth as much as the owner was asking, to an inauthentic replica P4 which commanded a price that the owner was willing to accept.
I will now, knowing what we have been taught from this thread, never be able to look at that car without wincing at the straight windscreen. Everytme I see a pic of it it sticks out like a sore thumb :-(
Very simple thing to rectify if the current owner wishes to do so, it did not stop them paying a substantial sum of money regardless. Anyone purchasing such a car will have carried out significant due diligence on all facets of the car and its history beforehand. So much for it being the white elephant many predicted!
Lets see what the next 5 to 10 years hold. Perhaps with time there will be more perspective. In the mean time I am just glad there are cars like 0854 around.
Really? What's with the rear fenders? Not too high? And the front air intake? All is wrong. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very true, no doubt over time the car will continue to evolve back to full correct P4 spec, who knows it may even revert back to a Can am one day, the ingredients are all still there Trends do change
At that price you'd think that they'd get it right. To misquote Bogart from the Maltese Falcon "it's not a grifter I object to but a cut rate grifter".
Not disputing the fact that errors have been made. But the car is now sold, where as before, nobody wanted the thing. Job well done from that aspect. Somebody on here shoulda ponied up the cash, if it really was as important as you all have made it out to be. Price may have been high at the time, but with Dino's selling for what they are, the price doesn't seem so outa line. GTO at 53 million, a one of one race car should command at least half that, but nobody bought it, nobody wanted it. Now its sold, bottom line mission accomplished. The finished product is debateable however.
Here's 0858's original P4 Spyder tail which is currently mounted on 0846. The tire on 0846 is exact period correct height and width. Note how tire fills wheel well vs Piper replica body. Note rear spolier wrap around angel. Image Unavailable, Please Login
After all tis time we get an admission of what the bottom line is. Nothing wrong with anyone doing what they want with their property but its good to put an end to the posturing.
You know what HL paid for 350 Can Am 0858? You know what he paid to have it Piperised? You know what he sold Piperised 0858 for? "Job well done from that aspect?" is based on what facts/numbers?
