Speaking of lawsuits, you might even see the movie studio file a lawsuit against the estate of the driver of the Porsche, for loss of future revenue from no more Fast & Furious movies with their star now deceased.

Four threads on this same topic started yesterday, one in Silver and three in other areas; all were merged into this one (the first thread posted). Prior to the merge, the discussions were splintered, with bits and pieces of the story appearing in different places and a lot of cross-posting by the same users.

Today, two more threads popped up, one in Silver and one in another area. They were both merged into this one as well.

Pretty naive statement... there will be lawsuits. They were business partners.

    not a gas line.

if that was that large a gas line that was hit and lit the fire would have been much more enormous than the one shown in the video.

    most likely water...

Yep. That is a domestic water line. (See the back flow preventer?)

While I don't disagree, it's unlikely this would have helped in this case.

First, both passengers were unconscious. Someone has to press the button.

Second, the crew from his shop that showed up first used 5 fire extinguishers and none had any effect (this from an eye witness statement). Only the fire department was able to slow the fire. True, getting it earlier might have stopped it but there's just as good a chance it would restart given the circumstance.

I too agree these kinds of cars should have halon. I just don't think it would have made a difference here.

What the Carrera GT really seems to need are ejection seats.

I do know someone who has put over 10,000 miles on one without incident but he spent much of his younger years driving sideways in cars when the thought of traction control or stabilty management was only a thought.

This incident has hit home for a lot of people I know, including a few who were there at the scene unable to help. A few pages back in the photo of the driver Roger Rodas stands a couple of his race crew members, one whom I have known for more than a decade. Sad times for all of them.

I put one of these automatic fire extinguishers in the engine bay of my 348 for something ridiculously cheap like ~~ $110: QuickFire | Fire Suppression Technology

and I put one of these automatic fire extinguishers into my 928 for about $200: Halon SS 30 Fire Fight Automatically Deploy Straight Head | eBay
    http://www.firefightproducts.com/Fire_Fight_Supplemental_Hal.html

The Quick-Fire unit is just a pvc tube filled with compressed fire retardant agents. The PVC tube gets hot when there is an enginebay fire, and as the plastic melts, the whole tube sort of explodes the fire retardant all over the engine bay...since it was compressed. A little bit like popping a balloon.

The SS-30 is basically just a halon hand-held fire extinguisher...except that the trigger is already pulled, so the only thing preventing it from spraying halon is a low-temperature metal like electric solder. Heat melts the lot-temp metal block and the trigger fires, releasing the halon.

Both units are STUPENDOUSLY cheap...people pay more for floormats. All track-capable street cars should have these installed in the engine bays by responsible owners.

Heck, install more than one. They take up little room. Add almost no real weight.

I've been tracking my cars since 2005 without an extinguisher misfire...yet I know that heat *will* cause both units to work even if I am unconscious.

    Cheap safety life-hack.

Never liked CGT. I was watching a video few years back and i recall that the the car journalist who was testing the CGT in Nurburgring made three unsuccessful attempts to start the car but that nothing. Very difficult to drive, strongly very nervous to the limit and don't forgive mistakes. Α modern widowmaker.

    Still hard to believe it.....

As I said in a previous post I had a CGT until 2 months ago. Two years and 4000 miles later I got rid of it. I consider myself a pretty good driver and still would never push the car beyond 80% on track as it was just to unforgiving and its polar movement of inertia just seemed to great once you had it sliding. It is truly a racecar with few safety features and not suitable for most drivers

I've heard that from multiple sources, more than a degree or two of yaw and adios.

and you're more than a pretty good driver ;)

That definitely displays some pretty good control & knowledge of the handling of that car.

    Is that you?

I'll also add: While definitely somewhat risky and/or foolish to be performing that kind of stuff in traffic, none of those maneuvers were done at speeds that would be likely to put lives at risk if something were to go amiss.

True is that this guy represents some skills. Yet, public road is a public road, and this kind of "performance" should stay AWAY from the traffic - even if it's a low speed.
