Well, that's tough to dismiss: We should all be so lucky to spend our last day doing something genuinely meaningful. That foundation should live on.
From a Danish newspaper today they say (some source) that an employee of AE was trying to reverse into a garage, but stalled ther car repeatedly. Rodas told the employee to get out and wanted to park the car himself. While he was trying that Paul Walker stopped by and said he had never tried to riding in such a car before. SO off they went. It goes on to say that Roger was not the kind of guy who would do reckless driving. Based on that we must assume the Porsche have been wrecked with 35 mph.
Interesting reading the posts about having the fire extinguisher's for cars that work in the event of a fire. Most cars would really need 2, one for the front engine bay, and one in the rear of the car, in close proximity to the gas tank. Regarding the post about the wreck may have happened at 35mph, if that's the case it would really point a finger at how unpredictable the handling of the Porsche GT is. Hopefully the data from the black box of the car will revel at lot, and perhaps outside surveillance cameras from some of the businesses along that route will show how the event unfolded.
Wouldn't that be rich if Dateline did their own investigation on Porsche much like the Chevrolet C/K-Series pickup trucks that were allegedly exploding upon impact.
link? I don't see how a power steering leak would lead to that crash. and no way in hell did that accident happen at 35 mph.
how could they tell there was a steering fluid leak after that? how would they know if it occurred before or after the accident? and if that accident happened at 35mph, then porsche has a much bigger problem on their hands. bs all round.
Don't kill the messenger. I didn't say it was legit, just stating what they said. Don't have a link, just saw it on the morning news. Khou channel 11, if you want to search. I also don't believe it was a low speed accident. But where is 35mph coming from? The speed limit was clearly 45 on the street sign.
Even if it was a power steering leak how can they prove it was from the CGT? That road around the shop is most likely a well known "exhibition route" & could have leaked out of anyone else's vehicle that attended that charity event.
No way 35 mph car looks bent in half to take out a sign pole, maybe 135 mph. Fire extingishers sound good built in the car but I am sure with todays plastic technology they could make a self sealing fuel tank in a $500,000 car with check valves where fuel comes out to the motor, they had those in Mustangs in WW2 70 years ago.
And if the wreck "only" happened at 35mph. the air bags would have deployed, and surely at least one, if not both people would have been able to get out of the car. The stories I watched on the news, talking with the people with fire extinguishers trying to put the fire out, did not say anything about the occupants moving about in the car, trying to free themselves. So they both were unconscious, or already deceased. A very sad event.
you must ask yourself.. When does a machines potential performance exceed a mans potential ability. Why do they outlaw Aluminum baseball bats, Because the pitcher cannot react quickly enough to get out of the way of the return line drive nor catch the ball...Death is a potential result. In a similar instance of ignorance..why is the PDK or F1 transmission overtaking the manual.. Because the F1 can shift a gear in a fraction of the time that a human can.. As a whole the industry needs to step back and put manifold restricters { anology } on our minds as this type of incident will become commonplace as our youth segways into the new order of performance capable equipment.. 800 HP Ferrari's included. 550 HP is too much let alone... just my 2 cents....
Mark my words 10 years from now, these cars will be illegal to run on city streets of California without a special "permit" that limits where and when they can be used for demonstration purposes only. Incidents like this are fuel for the "we need to keep the public safe" crowd, as your post clearly indicates.
Autocar tested the new Porsche hypercar. Said it was almost as fast as a Veyron. The P1 and La Ferrari will perhaps be even faster. I can't still get over the fact that there is a high production (relatively) GT out there with 740 hp (the F12) that anyone, anywhere can go and buy. Supercars may be dying buy they are going out with a BANG!
once more, a few 'bad apples' ruin it for the rest of us. the gubment wants us all on public transport or in self driven smart cars.
EHHHHH.. Have you seen a glimpse of the X box generation thats on its way up.. we are all in trouble if you call this " a few bad apples"
Judging by the # of posts you have in the relativly short time you have been a member.. You admit....which generation you are from. Quit while you are ahead! The F & F movies glorify street racing...The movies have penetrated the game box industry.. a generation of drivers will not consider safety as an issue. WRONG on all counts. Hey ! its just a Blog...Lighten up!
We already have this. It's called a "drivers license" and "posted speed limits" and "motor vehicle" laws The real issue is the morons that do not obey them.
If you go to Google Street View for the location of the accident, the sign on the pole they knocked over at impact read 35 mph. In photos from the crash scene, however, the sign has been changed in the past year to 45 mph. >8^) ER
