Whilst searching for new cars for Peter's 208/308 GT4 Register site about 3 weeks ago I found a Rosso Dino 208. I don't know the vin but at least I got some good photos, I've included the close up ones so you can see it really is orange.

I would love to know if the 208 GT4 decals on the side were factory fitted, I think most would agree they're ugly but I'm curious!!

It's only Giallo Dino & Giallo Senappe we need now.

Can this thread be made a sticky please?

Very nice (except the 246 GT hubcaps, they are a bit out of place). I don't thnk that the decals are original, at least i've never seen them in old images.

    Phil,

Glad it made it there OK. I talked to the PO and he is glad the car is in good hands. What happened to the other wheels?

if it wasn´t an Eberlein car i would say the stickers are trying to hide rot spots.
    really dont look good.
but Eberlein has a very good reputation so the car will be okay underneath the stickers.

Recently a fellow gt4 owner I know discovered his car was initially nocciolla met.
A well informed friend of mine told me that any color from the 275 could be ordered, beside the Gilden Salchi colors...

Mine is canna di fucile, which does not seem a correct shade to me, but the previous owner and the one before both swear it's the original color.... ???

Any known (online) way to get the details of how the car was configured when it left the factory ?

    Hi stlouis,

You seem to be confirming what I guessed previously:-
Thanks very much for the info!!!

I'm not sure if there is a way of finding the original spec of your car without paying.

    Hello
    I have a 1974 , No 09822 Dino 308gt4
It is in a colour I have assumed to be "Marrone Dino metallizzato" and the code is / was
106 M 73 which now seems to be an obsolete code system.
Having a problem with finding up to date paint codes for this original colour , I need to carry out some painting and so wonder if anyone can anyone shed light on this problem

Hey - that's my car in the picture, chassis #10704. I've owned it since 1996 - my first Ferrari. Here's another pic with the 328 wheels on it.

    Richard,

i'm currently preparing repainting my EU Series 1 GT4 in the factory delivered Marrone paint job. There were two different Glidden and Salchi Marrone colors available for Dinos, an earlier (somewhat lighter) one for the 246 and from '74 on a somewhat darker Marrone for Series 1 GT4s.

GermanDino borrowed me his original Ferrari color samples from '74 which i used as reference for measuring the exact paint color, as the reference numbers for modern paints resulted in paints very different to the original Marrone Dino.
Even after measuring the original sample it took six trials to get even near the Ferrari color sample. While disassembling the GT4 i discovered the original color behind the type label in the door frame, which unfortunately is a bit different to the Ferrari color sample.

The Marrone paint color seems to be very difficult to recreate as it changes quite a lot in appearance depending on the light (shadow, overcast sky, sunny). See below for a photo of the original paint job and the Ferrari color swatch sample in two different light conditions (please ignore the vertical bar on the Color Swatch Shadow sample, this is a reflection of the beige seat vinyl while taking the photo).
There is quite a difference between the two samples in sunlight (the original paint being less saturated/warm), in the shadow the original paint and the color sample look reassuringly similar though.

This will take some more paint sample trials unfortunately, i haven't decided yet if i go with the Ferrari color sample or the original paint i found as reference.

    Best,
    Adrian

This is the original color of my GT4. It was unfortunately painted "resale" bright red in 1989, I don't think it's even a correct GT4 color. I just got these photos from the previous owner that he found before he painted it. I don't have the color sticker from under the engine lid and don't want to pay $3k for a Certificato di Identificazione.

What do you think? Does it look like Verde Pino Metallizzato? I'm really tempted to go back to green with a freshened up beige interior.

My personal opinion would be to go back to the original color. Looks very nice on a GT4.
