Ha, I had two different weekends booked in Austin $100 refundable rates and they pick the weekend between the two! I still got a refundable on the right weekend for $110 though.

    :)

Hopefully, we'll have something to discuss a lot earlier than that!..... Aren't they still shooting for a few days testing later this month? If not, they're definitely running (in the Middle East?) in January I believe.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Holy CRAP. I just realized the USGP's the same weekend as the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway.

I suppose that's still better than on the same weekend as a UT home football game.....

The new (official) USGP date now falls also with Halloween on Friday's practice day! :)

But it screws up the plan for flying in with the family :( Had it been the 9th, the kids could have come because Monday the 10th will be a day off from school. We will do Canada instead for family vacation/race; BUT I will (still) go to Austin alone now.... :(

“It’s a foolish move by Formula One,” Gossage said in a terse statement. “Our two NASCAR Sprint Cup races draw the two largest crowds in Texas sports. It isn’t the smartest move to try to compete with that.

“I’m sure regardless of what they say publicly, the folks at the Austin track are pulling their hair out over this one. They don’t have any say over their date.”

Not really. The football game & USGP actually may have helped attendance for both events with people attending both events.

That won't happen with this conflict. The events will compete directly.

"The U.S. Grand Prix had an announced a crowd of 113,162 for the Nov. 17 race, down slightly from the 117,429 at the inaugural race in 2012."

I'd say that is a good sign, given that some folks were concerned that this year there would be less fans coming from Mexico. I don't see a big conflict with F1 and Nascar being 3 hours away. I've lived there and driven across the state, and Texas is a mighty big place!

I wonder how that might change if and when Mexico gets their own Grand Prix.....

Yeah it's a mighty big place, but Austin to Ft. Worth is just 3 hours like you said, not "across the state".

I think there's probably more crossover between NASCAR & F1 than most people on either side are willing to admit. Once you get past the F1 snobs & the NASCAR snobs, that's where you'll see the effect. The casual motorsport fan or the avid motorsport fan who can't get enough of every kind of racing...those are the fans who will be picking one race or the other.

At any rate, the USGP needs every fan it can attract. The Cup race at TMS has never had a problem drawing huge crowds. That place holds almost 200K people and the smallest crowd I know of there is about 150K.

    What is a NASCAR snob?

Somebody who never had a real beer but argues vehemently that Bud Light is better than Miller Lite?

On track passes facilitated by artificial yellow flags you mean.
