I'm not sure it's just the results of recent NCGs that have resulted in this opinion. There's also regular season non-conference records which the SEC seems to be at the top of. Then there are the annual Bowl results where the SEC typically does better than most despite it always being handicapped by playing a team that finished higher in their respective conference than the SEC team did in the SEC. And it gets even worse when you consider there are always 2 SEC teams in the BCS so the remaining bowl matchups are typically skewed even more to the opposing conference.

    Here are the matchups:
    Capital One: Big 10 #2 v. SEC #2
    Cotton: Big 12 #2 v. SEC #3
    Outback: Big 10 #3 v. SEC #4
    Chick-fil-A ACC #2 v. SEC #5
    Gator: Big 10 #5 v SEC #6
    Music City: ACC #6 v. SEC #7
    Liberty: CUSA #1 v. SEC #8

Even with this handicap, the SEC posted the second best bowl results in 2012-2013 of any conference, and the best of any of the BCS conferences.

Is it far more difficult? I'd agree that its probably not, although there's no way to know for sure. But the results that come from matchups against other conferences not including the BCS Championship also play a significant role in the perception that the SEC is the dominant league.

I agree with most of your statements. It does seem that some of the other conferences should have an opportunity at least once in a while. The statement from the SEC director or whatever his title is that a 1 loss SEC team should absolutely be put in to the MNC game ahead of a no loss Big 10 team seems a bit out of line. As noted previously I think all the college football trends are cyclical, so the SEC has had a fairly long stay at the top of the conference rankings, and also had the benefit of some fortunate events to help with that cause.

The objection I have is that the silly talk of "any SEC team would dominate in any other conference" or other similar rants is just not being realistic at all. As evidence there are losses by Alabama against Utah in a major bowl game, losses by LSU / Florida in last years bowl games, and the preseason ranked teams losing to non conference opponents early in this season. The SEC is good without a doubt, and the average would favor the SEC in conference vs conference games, but without a doubt there would be losses on the SEC side as a regular occurance if the teams did not have any conference affiliation.

As evidence let's look at the recent additions to the SEC conference. Previously belonging to the Big 12, both aTm and Mizzou would previously been dismissed by SEC fans as totally uncompetitive in the SEC, being middle of the road teams in another conference. Now two years into their SEC tenure, and one is the SEC east champ, the other is considered one of the top teams in the SEC west. Nothing magical happened to either team in the past two years. In fact Mizzou took the SEC by surprise this year, but will be considered an SEC front runner next year.

Actually it was Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs that made the statement - a bit of lobbying to the Coaches and Harris Poll voters.

Completely agree on TAMU and Mizzou being able to come in and do well. Although I really expected Mizzou to do this last year due to the east being down. Injuries devastated them resulting in a sub-par record, and I think everyone wrote them off this year (including me) because of last years showing.

Unless they get a defense, TAMU may just end up being lightning in a bottle though once Manziel and Evans are gone though. Time shall tell.

Both A&M and Mizzou should be able to build on this year's momentum, in some ways to the detriment of other schools like Texas and LSU due to recruiting. TU and LSU recruit heavily in Texas (I would assume the Longhorns are the "default" university for many high school stars in the state). A&M will pull many of these recruits, stealing away from LSU due to geography and from Texas due to the SEC.

Missouri has an even bigger geographic area to pull recruits from. In the Big12 they could only get second-tier players from places like Kansas, Oklahoma, or Nebraska. When you see high-ranked recruits from these areas choosing to be a Tiger rather than a Husker or Sooner, the only logical conclusion is that these players want to play in the SEC and be on TV each week, rather than the Big12 or Big10 and Missouri is the logistic choice for their families. Mizzou is also "good enough" in the SEC East to showcase their talent.

My hope last year for Mizzou was 4-4 in conference play, as stated injuries decimated them and they had a forgettable year. 4-4 was again my hope for 2013, and they clearly have exceeded my and everyone else's expectations. The current line is only 2 points for Auburn, so it should be a hard fought game. What is unfortunate is that the losing team has no chance for a BCS bid. Alabama will be the second SEC team in the BCS, with the title winner being the other. Both FSU and OSU lose and Alabama backs into another national championship game.

Rooting hard for Michigan State this week. We will see what OSU is made of and if they deserve to be in the national championship. Maybe Winston will be arrested as well, the evidence seems pretty damning but everyone gets their day in court. Either way FSU probably have enough without Shameus Winston to beat Duke.

Speaking of Winston, you know stars like this have a neverending smorgasbord of willing girls, which makes the allegations that much more difficult to fathom. Either he is wrongly accused by a shunned groupie, or a sociopath that will take whatever he wants. Either way a terrible situation for one of them, and the other is a monster.

Anyone want to guess the BCS game matchups?

Right now, Northern Illinois is ranked #14 in the BCS. They have to finish in the top 12 to get a guaranteed bowl slot OR if they finish in the top 16 and higher than a BCS automatically qualifying team. Right now UCF (#16) has share of their conference title, which has an auto bid to a BCS game so N Ill right now would qualify at #14.

So UCF and N Illinois appear to be in the BCS games if they both win. The other 8 spots will feature 5 BCS conference champions leaving 3 at-large slots. Selection order for at-large slots is Orange, Sugar, Fiesta for Jan 2014 and at-large teams must have 9 wins and at least top 14 in BCS.

Orange bowl (likely losing #1 FSU) gets its first pick of at-large replacements and Rose bowl (likely losing #2 OSU) gets second picks unless something weird happens Saturday. Then the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta order follows as stated earlier.

    Anyone got ideas? Imo...

BCS NCG - #2 OSU (Big10 champ) vs #1 FSU (ACC champ)
Orange - Alabama (at-large, replaces #1 FSU lost) vs. #12 Clemson (at-large)...doubt #9 Baylor as they won't travel as well as Clemson fans ($$$).
Sugar - Auburn (tied-in SEC champ) vs UCF (2nd to last to select)
Fiesta - Oklahoma St (tied-in Big12 champ) vs N Illinois (last to select)
Rose - Stanford (tied-in Pac12 champ) vs #10 Michigan State (at-large, unless drops out of top 14, then maybe #9 Baylor in its place, but Rose bowl prefers Big10-Pac12 pairing).

This all assumes FSU, OSU, AU, Okie State, Stanford win this weekend...

Those are probably good guesses. Other than the FSU/OSU game the only other one that would be competitive / close would be Stanford / Michigan State.

I would rather see the UCF / NIU game leaving a more competitive Okie State / Auburn.

I think the ratings of the games are going to be low except for the Rose / NC games if it plays out as you describe.

I'd be surprised if he's being charged after they said that. Why wait 24 hours to charge and arrest someone? You don't. If they would have arrested him, they would've done it by now.

The 2 weeks of investigation imo shows that there was enough evidence there to seriously look into it, but probably not enough to charge and convict him without a reasonable doubt.

Didn't help the girl that FSU is in the hunt for the title game as the first cop pretty much didnt' help her out right when the rape apparently happened. Good luck getting anything that would harm a football title chance done at this time.

A lot of your assumptions are incorrect btw...

You are right about the fact that they would have arrested him...You don't announce a press conference to file charges. You file them.

As far as the 2 weeks, you are incorrect. Most of this was grandstanding, but more of what they were looking into was possibly filing charges against her, for filing a false police report...this could still happen but is not on the table as of right now for what I know...

TPD doesn't not care about football. In fact, they are notorious for going after football players more aggressively then your average citizen...I'll give you a couple of 'unreported examples'

I own the biggest nightclub in the town where FSU is located. Our police officers that work off duty for the club issued a trespass against James Wilder Jr. against our will as the property owner. We have been advised to let it go because of the relationship we have with the officers instead of insisting on our rights to have him as a guest and patron at our club.

I have personally been arrested by a TPD officer with a former FSU player that has been in the NFL for 13 years now. The TPD officer left his spot working off duty at the club we were arrested at, in order to personally drive us down to the jail (something our officers have never done ONE TIME in the last 10 years of working for us, with any patron)...Why? Because he wanted the spotlight. After my roomate (the FSU-NFL guy) was acquitted by a jury and my charges were subsequently dropped, the TPD officer was released from the department. BTW, I was arrested for trespass and even though the owner of the club at the time never issued any trespass and was even signed up as a witness on my side stating that I was always allowed into the club where I was arrested, the SA decided they still wanted to pursue the charges...I mean think about that, who do you pursue charges against someone for trespassing when the owner of the property is a witness to defend them? That's how bad it is...

Trust me, the last people that TPD (or the SA office) would ever give a break to was a football player. We, as a community, many times, have to protect them against unwarranted prosecution because it is literally that bad here...

I hope they announce that there are no charges against Jameis. He seems like a nice kid, hard to believe he would be a rapist when there are likely lots of willing girls around him.

You're spot on with the police in Tallahassee not giving players breaks. I went there in the early 90s and it was the same deal-probably like that at most schools. I think the media likes to paint it another way-it sells. Either way, we're about to hear something soon. Uuuuuuuggghhh.

It doesn't really matter to me if Ohio state or Alabama plays FSU. I think FSU will win against either opponent. I would guess it will be the Taint losing in the championship.

    Kk...I'll check it....

btw, my favorite part of Erica Kinsman's (the victim) story is when she says she was driven home on a scooter and dropped near her dorm...and that she was too intoxicated which is why she didn't resist....

sooo, you were forced onto a scooter (is that even possible lol) against your will by the guy that just raped you and you couldn't fight back because you were too intoxicated with your .04 BAC?

Wow, talk about a story that isn't flying...
