The body was not the only thing that was changed in this car to make it a Can Am.

It may be 80% original, but it's 80% original 350 Can Am, not 330 P4. Which is why it's called a replica.

Bardinon rebodied his car for himself, as part of his large collection of Ferraris that he loved to drive on his own track..........and said that if he could keep only one car it would be that one.

Rather different than having it done to supposedly enhance the value/chances of selling......

In my opinion, replica is way too strong a label. It seems like the most appropriate description for it is "P4-bodied 350 Can Am". That configuration would rightly be considered a Frankenstein car if it didn't start life as a P4, but since it did start life as a P4, there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason to consider it an outcast as long as it was transparently labeled, especially since the P4 part is just body panels and the Can Am body (and chassis and engine) have been preserved.

Of course, its worthiness of the "P4-bodied" part of that label is compromised by the incorrect body panels. I'm not significantly troubled by hammered versus English wheel, but I'm genuinely confused about the incorrect shape. For a car of that value and a restoration of that cost, why on earth wouldn't they get the shape right? It doesn't matter whether the motivation is historical correctness or purely financial, it's seems impossible to understand why they wouldn't take steps to get the shape exactly right.

The only reason would be to cut costs.

Agree, but seems penny-wise and GBP foolish to say the least since it presumably would have sold for much more if the panels were correct.

Once it was sold that incentive seems to disappeared. If it was ever a concern.

    I disagree.

tbh if spending that serious type of money you surely need to either do a lot of research yourself or employ an expert to make sure the car is properly inspected and all questions are asked and answered.

There never was a car called a 350 P4, so as long as it's made clear to anyone who enquires as a serious buyer that the engine is still the 4.2 Can Am unit the really there's no issue in calling it a 330 P4 (except for the incorrect body shape etc)

There's an issue when the car is not a 330 P4.

There was never a car called a 350P4 cause Ferrari never built one.

It wasn't until Bardinon and T Crest chopped up real Ferrari's that a car fit that description. Whereas based on specs and just an overall bad job this car doesn't have what it takes to be called a 330P4.

    It's a 350 Can Am with a poorly made P4 body.

One could safely say . . . That was the erstwhile "restorer's" responsibility,

instead they chose the path of GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out) and the White Elephant In The Room was passed on to the next suck-, er, owner.

It seems that there are at least three responsible parties. Talacrest the seller. Piper the restorer.
    And whomever bought it.

If those ladies are anything like the car, their actual names are likely Dave, John and Frank.

Seth, it will reach 2500 with ease, as the discussion has now shifted to the Talacrest Elves (really?) unless it gets publicly executed. It will kick and scream, but there is nothing to be said anymore.

    Best,

    Jack.

Wrong.Talacrest is the restorer. David Piper is a consultant/adviser only on the job. Considering he has more years, like over fifty, of racing, modifying, servicing, building and restoring P series Ferraris there is no one better for this position. This all started with Enzo Ferrari himself and for those who take the time to research David Piper they will realize his giant contribution to the sport actually going back to the 1950s. tongascrew

Oh no, not this again. It feels like deja vu all over again. I do believe that we all know where everyone stands by now. And I have a totally novel suggestion, perhaps we keep discussion to anything we havent already discussed to death :)
Ho Ho Ho indeed. Would santa even fit in a P4 ?
