In many ways a lot more complicated. And a lot more relevant to anyone who buys a road car. Particularly after the Bernie-fest that F1 has become.

McLaren are very far behind Porsche and Ferrari in terms of any sort of racing heritage. Not that they have none. But compared to Porsche and Ferrari, they are forever going to be the upstarts.

    Again, this is just idiotic.
Well what about the few highly skilled, capable drivers that have the ability to drive them close to their intended limits? The kind that McLaren, Porsche and Ferrari would hire specifically to test their cars and push them to the limit at tracks such as the Nurburgring - are they not relevant to this discussion?

It is wicked. Webber is driving in the shot I posted.

Between these two it will be wonderful racing.

Would Love to see Ferrari and McLaren build an LMP1 but some how I doubt that will be happening.

    VAG rules Le Mans.

Our new one will be very LMP1/GT.

no wonder you aren't well liked around these parts. however, I have enjoyed reading about your escapade re 'wanting a LaFerrar but being denied one'. nearly as idiotic as this whole thread.

Appreciate all the confidence you have in my statements here. ;) :D

That said, you were on the right track when you passed along this bit of news earlier:

Nothing at all has changed since that day in October except their decision to tell the world their actual results. Pity that, but it is what it is for now.

He called them a Poser car yet wants one?
    Interesting.

I'm sure he's posted for reaction only. No need to worry about it.

Name of La Ferrari bugs the heck out of me, but I think I might have an answer

If I happen to fall into an extra 1.4 mil, and magically find my name at spot 499, I can solve my issue with the following license plate:

    Think about it for awhile

A little perspective, please. Porsche is an elite car. You want mass market, try Honda Civic.

When a Porsche made, it does not travel an assembly line. It is made by hand. If a screw or bolt does not fit properly, the tech gets a micrometer and measures it and then goes and gets one that fits. Same with McLaren, same with Ferrari. The German mechanics--if you know anything about German culture--take great pride in their craftsmanship and always have. Contrast that to some not-so-late model Ferraris that have metal shavings in the gearboxes because of less than stellar workmanship.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ferraris and I think that their workmanship has become world class, but it was not always that way.

McLaren shares much of this pride in workmanship and this history of quality with Porsche.

The point is that all of these cars are extremely well made. Much more so than those mass produced, assembly line cars that cost about as much as an F-car transmission.

As for the dream of which you spoke . . .

Everybody has a dream. The greatest accomplishments of man all began as dreams, so don't be too tough on those of us who dream. I still harbor the dream of owning my own F-1 team some day. Nothing wrong with dreaming. But there is a lot wrong with an attitude that kills dreams.

4611 posts and we finally agree
Possibly worst name ever given to a car.

    Well except LeCar. :)

We would probably agree on a lot of things. :)

And I should get extra credit for a mug with a cat on it in my previous reply. :D

Porsche and Ferrari design and build their own racing engines while McLaren sources engines from others. IMO, this is a black mark in McLaren's racing heritage. Nevertheless all 3 are pedigreed race car builders.

It's a show car goings rom dealer to dealer. They are just fishing for a buyer for their p1 build slot now that it is officially sold out. Mclaren wouldn't sell some dealer an Xp car before any of their paying customers get theirs. So far no customer p1's have been delivered.

McLaren P13 first details revealed | Autocar

Boy, Mclaren really needs some diversity in it's products... 3 cars using, basically, the same engine and chassis technology... Might we ever see anything else other than the 3.8 V8 in a Mclaren?

Thanks, that is pretty much what we explain in the article. Did you look at the official video ? Did you check where Lieb drives in ? Did you time it ?

Cutting off thru T13 is SOP for industry pool days, but Porsche clocked theirs during a private day, with a full flying lap.

All we are saying is that Porsche picking the 20.6 km reference is convenient to claim sub 7 on a lap that most understand to be a full lap.

When Frank told me in August that P1 was "King of The Ring" the truth was it had run a 7:04. It had not yet been back for a second try. That is fact.

there is so much bs flying around, no one can even agree on how long the nurburgring is!

at some point in the future, hopefully, by the end of the summer 2014, i will be conducting a back-back test of these cars. we will control for all variables and run the cars on OEM rubber and use a brand name impartial pro driver who will be paid by me. we will get to the bottom of which car is faster around a circuit. not that it all really matters because these are not track cars anyway, but I want to know which company actually delivered the engineering and which one didnt.
